Lycos Europe's corporate network connects its headquarters and central data center in Gütersloh, Germany with Lycos data centers in Hamburg, Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm as well as major peering points in Amsterdam, London and Frankfurt. TeliaSonera IC is providing links ranging from 155 Mbps to 622 Mbps. The contract has a duration of three years. Financial terms were not disclosed.

France Telecom has withdrawn from the Belgian Internet market by selling its Wanadoo Belgium division to Tiscali for EUR 9.5 million in newly issued Tiscali shares. Wanadoo Belgium is an ISP and a portal site, with about 85,000 active customers -- of which 25,000 are ADSL subscribers. France Telecom said its withdrawal from Belgium is consistent with its European strategy, which is to focus on being one of the top three players in each market where the company is offering its services.

Corvis Reports $7M in Q4 Revenue, Ends Year With $504M in Cash

Corvis reported Q4 revenues of $7.1 million and a net loss was $190.2 million, or $0.47 loss per share. Pro forma net loss, excluding special charges for write-downs and restructuring, was $46.0 million, or $0.11 loss per share. The company ended Q4 with $504.4 million in cash and virtually no debt, down from $548.7 million at the end of Q3. Revenue for the quarter was generated from existing customers Qwest, Broadwing and France Telecom. On January 29, Corvis announced a workforce reduction of 180 positions, mostly in its R&D group.

New Edge Networks Reports DSL Operational Highlights

New Edge Networks, a privately held carrier supplying broadband services to small and mid-sized cities across the US, reported that its 2002 year-over-year revenues almost tripled to $60 million. Q4 revenues were $18.4 million, more than double the $8.8 million for the same three-month period a year earlier. About 60% of New Edge Networks' 600 central office locations for DSL service are producing positive operating income, up from 24% of central offices at December 31, 2001. Another 21% of the central office locations are within $1,000 a month of recurring revenue before also becoming positive. The company leases lines and transport from other carriers and does not rely on unbundled network switching services.

iBasis Reports 12% Sequential Increase in VoIP Minutes

iBasis carried 748 million minutes of voice traffic over its global IP network in Q4, a 78% increase over the 421 million minutes carried in Q4 2001, and a 12% sequential increase over the 670 million minutes in Q3 2002. Average revenue per minute was 5.7 cents per minute in Q4 2002, essentially unchanged from Q3 2002. In Q4, overseas-originated calls accounted for 54% of wholesale telecommunications revenue and 41% of wholesale traffic, up from 40% of wholesale revenue and 34% of wholesale traffic in Q3. The iBasis network ended the year with 43,452 total overseas lines and 771 PoPs. Financially, iBasis reported revenue from continuing operations of $42.9 million, an increase of 35% over Q4 2001 revenue of $31.7 million. There was a GAAP net loss of $10.8 million, or a net loss of $0.24 per share. The company believes it will achieve positive free cash flow and positive net income in mid-2004.
