Solarflare Expands 10GbE Offerings

Solarflare Communications has expanded its family of branded 10GbE products with a new 10GbE dual-port server adapter and Enterprise OpenOnload. The new SFN5122F adapter is especially designed for virtualization, cloud computing and high-performance computing in financial services. Enterprise OpenOnload is an application acceleration product ideal for high-performance computing in financial services and other vertical markets that require low-latency and high message rate application acceleration.

Solarflare noted that multiple high-density 10GbE data center switches are now available from such vendors as Arista, BNT, Brocade, Cisco and Force10. These switches drive the need for high-performance, dual-port 10GbE server adapters. To fully utilize the increased processing power delivered by multi-core CPUs, enterprises and data centers require native 10GbE network connections.

Featuring hypervisor bypass and SR-IOV, the SFN5122F alleviates network I/O bottlenecks and allows IT managers to allocate server I/O network resources directly to applications. Solarflare's scalable, hardware-assisted virtualized architecture supports thousands of vNICs for accelerated application networking. When combined with Enterprise OpenOnload, the SFN5122F can deliver sub-5 microsecond UDP/TCP application latencies, while supporting message rates in the millions. It also significantly reduces latency jitter, making it ideal for high-frequency trading.

Recently, Solarflare also published the results of testing this adapter with the Intel Xeon Processor 7500 Series Server, the next-generation server processor previously codenamed Nehalem-EX. The company equipped four Solarstorm SFN5122F dual-port 10GbE NICs on a four processor Intel Xeon Processor 7500 Series Server, achieving a new LAN speed record at 118 Gbps network throughput.
