Aviz Networks launches platform for SoNic integration

Aviz Networks, a start-up based in San Jose, California, launched its multi-platform application for network orchestration, visibility, assurance, with vendor neutral Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC) support.

The Aviz Open Networking Enterprise Suite (ONES) is an enterprise network management and support solution for helping enterprises transition to open source SONiC while ensuring interoperability with existing infrastructure running traditional NOS.

Aviz ONES supports Community SONiC and its vendor-specific distributions and providesNetOps capabilities for switches running SONiC. ONES also consumes telemetry from switches running a vendor NOS such as NVIDIA Cumulus Linux, as well as telemetry from Arista EOS or Cisco NX-OS, and if they utilize standard OpenConfig (gNMI) telemetry models. The sum of these capabilities makes ONES the most comprehensive and inclusive solution that can deliver end-to-end visibility for a multi-vendor, multi-NOS network.

“With the rapid adoption of open-source SONiC, network infrastructure teams are looking for solutions that not only provide support capabilities for different flavors of SONiC, but also provide NetOps across existing network infrastructure." said Vishal Shukla, CEO of Aviz Networks. “ONES enables orchestration, deep telemetry and assurance for multi-vendor deployments. The option for 24x7 SRE support enables users to introduce SONiC in their networks with confidence.”

The next USB4 spec hits 80 Gbps

The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) published the USB4 Version 2.0 specification, a major update to enable USB 80 Gbps performance over the USB Type-C cable and connector. This doubles the maximum aggregate bandwidth of USB to the benefit of higher-performance displays, storage, and USB-based hubs and docks. The USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery (USB PD) specifications have also been updated to support this higher level of data performance.Highlights:Up...

Lumentum posts sales of $507m, robust demand for lasers

Lumentum reported net revenue for its fiscal first quarter of 2023 of $506.8 million, with GAAP net loss of $0.4 million, or $0.01 loss per diluted share. Net revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter of 2022 was $422.1 million, with GAAP net income of $34.7 million, or $0.49 per diluted share. Net revenue for the fiscal first quarter of 2022 was $448.4 million, with GAAP net income of $81.5 million, or $1.08 per diluted share.

Non-GAAP net income for the fiscal first quarter of 2023 was $119.2 million, or $1.69 per diluted share.

"Solid execution drove first quarter revenue above the midpoint of our guidance, earnings per share to the high end of our range, and operating margin above guidance," said Alan Lowe, President and CEO.

"Demand is robust from our Telecom and Industrial Lasers customers. Looking forward, and consistent with industry trends, supply of specific IC components has not materialized as quickly as expected, and we now expect these shortages to continue into our fiscal 2024. Also, our near-term Datacom and 3D sensing outlook is lower than our prior projections."

  • In August 2022, Lumentum completed its merger with NeoPhotonics and the acquisition of IPG Photonics' telecom transmission product lines for an aggregate purchase price consideration of $990.3 million.

ADVA posts Q3 sales of EUR 179.6M, up 18%, supply challenges

Citing growth in demand from network operators and internet content providers (ICPs), ADVA reported record Q3 2022 revenues of EUR 179.6 million, an increase of 8.0% from EUR 166.3 million in Q2 2022 and a considerable increase of 18.3% compared to EUR 151.8 million in Q3 2021.

Pro forma gross profit in Q3 2022 reached EUR 60.9 million (33.9% of revenues), an increase of 12.0% compared to EUR 54.3 million (32.7% of revenues) in Q2 2022 and an improvement of 16.7% versus the EUR 52.2 million (34.4% of revenues) reported in Q3 2021. Compared to the year-ago quarter, gross profit was impacted by increased purchasing costs caused by the semiconductor crisis and a stronger US Dollar. The improvement in gross margin compared to the previous quarter is attributable to a more favorable customer and product mix.

Net income was EUR 0.9 million in Q3 2022, a decrease of 87.9% from EUR 7.3 million in Q2 2022, and a decrease of 95.2% from the EUR 18.5 million reported in Q3 2021.

The company’s cash and cash equivalents totaled EUR 61.4 million, representing a slight decrease of EUR 1.8 million compared to EUR 63.2 million at the end of Q2 2022. Year-over-year cash

“After nine months, our 2022 revenues remain at record levels. Our order books are well-filled and we’re working tirelessly to find solutions to maintain or even expand our ability to deliver,” said Christoph Glingener, CEO of ADVA. “The already high complexity in procurement, production and logistics is further increased by rising energy costs, inflation and strong currency fluctuations. We’re facing up to all these challenges. Our teams are working closely with our customers on a daily basis to provide them with the best possible support for their network expansion. We’re in a unique investment cycle that’s driving the rollout of a secure, digital communications infrastructure based on optical fiber. Our innovation adds significant value to any network and our company will continue to grow profitably.”

“Our revenues reached a new record in Q3. Despite the still tense supply situation, we managed to grow by 8.0% compared to the previous quarter and even by 18.3% compared to Q3 2021. This results in nine-month revenues of EUR 516.4 million, which represents a growth of 15.9% compared to EUR 445.6 million in the nine-month period 2021,” said Uli Dopfer, CFO of ADVA.
