Comcast Chooses Thomson's Digital-to-Analog Adapters
Thomson announced a purchase agreement with Comcast covering the supply of digital-to-analog (DTA) adapters. 
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The DTA adapter is a one-way device that enables cable operators to move quickly and cost-efficiently to all-digital infrastructures by delivering digital-quality video and audio service to existing analog cable customers. In addition, following the February 17, 2009 broadcast digital transition, cable operators will provide analog, standard- and high-definition digital broadcast signals to their customers.http://www.thomson.net

- In July 2007, Comcast awarded a contract to Thomson for VoIP cable modems (eMTAs modems) to support the continued rollout of its Comcast Digital Voice service. Comcast will use Thomson's DHG535 eMTA to connect its customers to both Comcast Digital Voice and Comcast High-Speed Internet through one integrated device.
Thomson has been a long-term supplier of data-only cable modems to Comcast.
NEC Acquires Hungarian Engineering Company
NEC Europe has acquired Linecom Kft., a Hungarian engineering company that has assisted NEC for more than 15 years, as part of reinforcing PASOLINK services and wireless business in Eastern Europe. NEC's product customization, engineering, maintenance and support for Eastern Europe were formerly outsourced to Linecom.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
NEC said its Eastern European PASOLINK business is continuing to expand year on year and now constitutes approximately 50% of PASOLINK's total European sales.http://www.nec.com

NTT DOCOMO to Launch BlackBerry Internet Service
NTT DOCOMO will begin offering its BlackBerry Internet Service on August 1. 
The service , which offers direct connection to the Internet without the need for a dedicated server, is aimed at individuals as well as small to midsize businesses who want a low-cost system for Web browsing and e-mail with their BlackBerry 8707h smartphones in Japan.
The BlackBerry 8707h will be sold through the company's Online Shop, Corporate Business Division and DOCOMO Shops' corporate business sections on August 1.http://www.nttdocomo.com

Sangoma Agrees to Acquire Paraxip
Sangoma Technologies agreed to acquire all of the shares of Paraxip Technologies Inc. for $4.8 million, payable as to $1.9 million in cash and 2.3 million Sangoma common shares.
Paraxip is a developer of IP connectivity software for IP telephony applications. Founded in 2003, Paraxip's customers include IBM, Genesys (a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent), First Data Corporation and the State of California.
Sangoma Technologies supplies PC-based hardware and software for proprietary and open source data and telephony transport solutions.
Sangoma said the integration of Paraxip's SIP based NetBorder suite into its product line provides a growth path that includes the Unified Communications market, IP contact centers, commercial interactive voice response solutions and other SIP-based telephony markets. The combined products and channels of the two companies considerably extend Sangoma's current addressable market range by providing support for all software-based telephony applications.

Avaya Appoints CFO
Avaya announced the appointment of Thomas Manley as Chief Financial Officer. Manley comes to Avaya from Cognos, an IBM company, where he was Chief Financial Officer and senior vice president, Administration. Mexico's Telcel 
has launched its third-generation (3G) high speed broadband network in several cities, bringing the power of the wireless internet to customers. Nokia Siemens Networks, one of Telcel's preferred vendors, providing a solution combining infrastructure and services based on High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) standards built on its Flexi BTS platform. Global Crossing Expands Network Management Services in Latin America
Global Crossing is expanding its Network Management Services in Latin America. Currently, Global Crossing offers these services to several large enterprises in Colombia, supporting more than 2,500 monitored end points in the country. Global Crossing recently expanded the services to Brazil and will offer them in Argentina soon.
Through its Network Management Services, Global Crossing can manage part or all of customers' communications infrastructure, based on their preference. Additionally, by utilizing Network Management Services, enterprises can also benefit from the best practices of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and Project Management Institute (PMI), adopted by Global Crossing for its customers in Latin America. Verizon Business Enhances Calling Detail for Wholesale Customers
Verizon Business will begin offering greater call information granularity to its wholesale customers. Wholesale customers can gain additional detail about the costs of a call for their international termination services, enabling added control over expenses.
Wholesale customers also can take advantage of added information in the call-detail record (CDR) as well as improved CDR layout. Changes include expanded field lengths as well as new fields for additional detail that, in turn, increase the wholesale customers' ability to manage their e-billing activity, track costs, and match their daily CDRs to their monthly invoice. As a result of these CDR refinements, wholesale customers will have the ability to increase their competitive edge.
Later this summer, Verizon Business said it will also begin providing consolidated invoice reports for wholesale international termination services, allowing customers to view, monitor and audit call information -- all from one report. This report will be consolidated for both traditional voice and VoIP calls, saving wholesale customers valuable time by streamlining their call analysis process.http://www.verizon.com/news

Avanex Fires its President and CEO, CFO Resigns
Citing an inability to work together effectively, the Board of Directors of Avanex Corporation has terminated Dr. Jo Major from his position as President and Chief Executive Officer. Juniper Names Executive Vice President, Worldwide Field Operations
Juniper Networks appointed John Morris to the position of executive vice president of worldwide field operations, with responsibility for heading Juniper's global sales, services and channel organizations. Mr. Morris joins Juniper Networks from San Francisco-based pioneer of biometric payments Pay By Touch, where he served as president and chief executive officer. Ignis Awarded EU Grant for WDM-PON development
Ignis Photonyx had been awarded an R&D grant by the European Commission's ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Program for their next-generation WDM-PON technology. Together with other European telecom system providers, including Ericsson, Ignis Photonyx will lead a joint development effort called GigaWaM. The project is being funded by the European Commission for approximately US$4.7 million.
The project was initiated by Ignis Photonyx and will be technically-lead from the Ignis PLC-fab in Birkeröd, Denmark.
