Nortel Ships New Release of Unified Communications Solution

Nortel released its latest Communication Server 1000 (CS 1000) featuring a number of resiliency, security and energy efficiency improvements.

Release, 6.0 includes CS 1000 provides even greater simplicity, resiliency, security, and openness. Initial results of independent comparisons of CS 1000 release 6.0 and competing products also find that the Nortel solution is up to 40 percent more energy efficient. The Communication Server 1000 is a software-based, full-featured IP PBX and the cornerstone of Nortel Enterprise unified communications solutions.

As part of release 6.0, CS 1000 offers a number of new features including greater centralization of functions that can further help enterprises to reduce the total cost of ownership of their network solution. For example, a new high-density services gateway, the Media Gateway 1010, centralizes the provision of communications services and applications to simplify operations across the network. Another component of release 6.0, the Unified Communications Management Solution manages CS 1000 as the network's UC foundation and provides a framework that allows centralized management of all converged network elements. A Linux-based software solution provides simplified diagnostics and serviceability. Release 6.0 also expands CS 1000 options for COTS platforms adding the IBM x3350 and Dell R300.

Japan's NICT Deploys Juniper Core Virtualization Solution

Japan's National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has enabled core routing virtualization across its new-generation ultra high-speed test bed research network using JGN2plus, Juniper's T1600 core routing platform and JCS 1200 control system. Juniper Networks provided NICT with the technology to build virtualized core routers, which can increase the flexibility, efficiency and performance of its network.

National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) is the sole national research institution in Japan in the information and communications field. NICT is striving to advance the fields, by promoting its own R&D centers (especially, "ICT for Safety and Security," "New Generation Networks" and "Universal Communications" fields) and by cooperating with supporting outside parties. NICT has been operating JGN2plus, its super high-speed and high performance test-bed network, since April 2008.

Juniper's T1600 multi-terabit core router enables service providers to increase network capacity in line with escalating service demands without adding incremental systems to the network so that they can speed new service deployment, deliver a superior end-user experience and maximize their existing T-series investments.
The JCS 1200 is an innovative system for scaling the control plane of routers and allowing the clean partitioning of services or network elements.

France's SFR Selects Mobile Backhaul from NSN

France's SFR has selected a radio solution from Nokia Siemens Networks to enable the migration of its mobile backhaul network to all IP architecture.

Earlier this month, SFR in collaboration with Nokia Siemens Networks became the first to showcase such applications in France on a live 3G network with a 14 Mbps mobile broadband connection.

Nokia Siemens Networks' integrated IP radio access solution is a part of the Flexi Base Station platform, which supports High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) and can help operators easily migrate their mobile backhaul to IP using software. This solution is also compatible with SFR's fixed broadband access technologies. Since it supports high bandwidth and low latency, it enables operators to offer a real-time multimedia experience at reduced costs.
