Nayna Networks Unveils its EFM Platform

Nayna Networks, a start-up based in San Jose, California, unveiled its first products for building converged Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) access networks. Nayna's ExpressSTREAM product family is aimed at delivering EFM services over any type of access network topology, including IEEE 802.3ah point-to-point and point-to-multipoint EPONs, FTTx and/or copper plant upgrades. Key to Nayna's architecture is a switching fabric that delivers 32 Gbps throughput and 48 Mpps of packet processing power. This allows fiber networks to scale up to 127 sites per single EPON, four times the scalability of competitive products according to the company, and 84 PONs per 7 foot rack. The system supports a full range of triple-play services. It also features extended video capabilities, including RF or IP video and support for carrying satellite TV signals.

Nayna is initially introducing an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) for deployment at Central Office/POPs and an Optical Network Unit (ONU) for deployment at the curb or in building basements. The company will introduce Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) for businesses and single-family dwellings later this year. The solution is currently available. http://www.nayna.com/
  • Nayna Networks was founded in February 2000 and has offices in San Jose, Paris and Tokyo.

  • Nayna is headed by founder Naveen Bisht, who previously was founder, president and CEO of Ukiah Software, a developer of policy-based bandwidth and security management software systems for service provider and enterprise networks. Nanya was co-founded by Dr. Raj Jain, a well-known industry author, researcher and a Professor of Computer Science at Ohio State University.

  • Nayna's investors include Apex Venture Partners, MKS Ventures, Ignite Group, Pacesetter Capital Group,Van Wagoner Capital Mgt, Kinetic Ventures, ABN Amro Private Equity, Dominion Ventures, Venture Banking and others.

VeriSign Debuts VoIP Routing Service for MSOs

VeriSign launched a new service that provides cable operators (MSOs) and VoIP carriers with end-to-end voice over IP routing. The VeriSign service removes the need to route IP calls over the Public Switched Telephone Network, thereby allowing MSOs to connect IP calls securely, and avoid incurring costly toll charges from third-party carriers.

The "VeriSign MSO-IP Connect" service provides a centralized call routing and discovery database based on the ENUM and PacketCable SIP-based Call Management Server Signaling (CMSS) protocols. Unlike other services that only allow ENUM connectivity, VeriSign's standardized interfaces also support the PacketCable SIP-based CMSS protocol, allowing maximum flexibility in obtaining public route information. Through perimeter security management and protocol inter-working, VeriSign's new service also helps secure MSO networks -- even with high volumes of telephony transactions. In addition to security, the service also draws on VeriSign's billing and payments expertise by providing complete inter-MSO billing and settlement services. The VeriSign MSO-IP Connect service is available internationally and pricing is based on an annual subscription model. http://www.verisign.com
