NTT Com to Offer Dual-stack Global IP-VPN Service Worldwide

NTT Com is rolling out a worldwide commercial IPv6-compatible IP-VPN service based on MPLS. The service will provide dual-stack connectivity for NTT Com's Arcstar Global IP-VPN via synchronous transfer mode (STM), Ethernet or cross-connect access lines. The service is now available in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore. Launches in other markets will follow.

NTT Com said that by allowing both protocols to be used on the same network, its VPN service enables enterprises to retain existing IPv4 architecture while gradually transitioning to IPv6 in a relatively smooth, low-cost manner. Most Arcstar Global IP-VPN optional services will be available, including quality of service, load sharing and traffic reporting. Service-level agreements will assure reliable, high-quality IP-VPN performance.

"Deploying an IPv6-compatible system can require time, so now is the time for enterprises to begin preparing for the transition, starting by consider just how badly the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses could impact the company's overall ICT system," said Dr. Shin Miyakawa, Director of IP Core Technology, Innovative IP Architecture Center. "The new dual-stack service will enable companies to smoothly transition from IPv4 to IPv6 via a fully managed, high-quality global network, backed by the unmatched know-how and experience of NTT Com, operator of the world's first commercial global IPv6 backbone since 2001."

The company launched a Japan-only dual-stack Arcstar IP-VPN service in March 2009.

Cable & Wireless Deploys NSN in the Channel Islands

Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) has upgraded and expanded its 3G network in the Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey with Nokia Siemens Networks. Nokia Siemens Networks is deploying its Single Radio Access Network (Single RAN) platform, which serves a variety of wireless access technologies by using the same Flexi Multiradio base station. Verizon's Content Delivery Carries Half Terabyte per Second

Verizon's content delivery service is now carrying up to half a terabyte of data per second over its IP backbone.

The company said much of the increased traffic attracted over the past year has been via its Partner Port Program, which provides faster connections and delivery of content when compared with traditional peering-based delivery systems.

The program, launched just over a year ago and offered in the U.S., is a concentrated effort to draw content onto the Verizon network via direct connections with content owners' servers at content delivery access points located around the country. The direct links allow content owners and aggregators to bypass the traditional "peering" delivery system that involves multiple connections, or "hops," over several networks and causes latency and quality issues for data delivery to end users.

The direct link between content servers and the Verizon global IP network means that Internet content directed to the homes of Verizon's and other ISPs' customers is quickly delivered, improving the performance quality of the delivery network and the customer experience.

"We have active plans to scale this infrastructure with a 100 gigabit Ethernet backbone in the very near future. We also are expanding these capabilities to the Verizon IP networks in Europe and Asia to provide a truly global offering for content delivery via the highly interconnected Verizon global IP network, and expect to make an announcement about an international opportunity soon," said Ihab Tarazi, vice president of global network planning for Verizon.

Dilithium Launches iPad Live and On-Demand Video Streaming

Dilithium has added live streaming video and Video-On-Demand (VOD) streaming for the iPad utilizing the Dilithium Content Adapter (DCA). This includes Adobe Flash video delivered through the standard iPad Safari browser.

The company said its DCA is unique in its ability to deliver live video and VOD to all iPads and iPhones (OS2 and OS3), using their built-in Safari browser. It supports all popular video formats, and performs on-the-fly and on-demand media formatting and codec adaptation. iPad users do not need to install any special applications to stream video to their device, which may be connected over wireless networks.

"The iPad has a larger screen which requires special adaptation and bitrate configurations to meet customer's viewing expectations in varying wireless network conditions," said Marwan Jabri, Founder and CTO of Dilithium Networks. "As with the iPhone, the iPad does not support Adobe Flash video."http://www.dilithiumnetworks.com
