Marconi Enhances SoftSwitch with Teligent Voicemail

Marconi announced a partnership with Sweden-based Teligent will develop SIP-enabled applications for the Marconi SoftSwitch. The Teligent Messaging Service (TMS) will provide SoftSwitch subscribers with voicemail, IP-based Intelligent Voice Recognition (IVR) and advanced voice processing applications, such as text-to-speech and speech recognition. The joint solution will allow users to download or stream voice, fax, text (SMS and email) as well as video and multimedia (MMS) messages to devices such as IP phones, PCs and video-enabled IP phones. The TMS will also provide the SoftSwitch with features that will allow users to retrieve their voicemails from websites or PC programs and access their email via text-to-speech over the phone. In addition, the combined SoftSwitch and TMS will provide users with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) client to give a single, converged view of all message types.



The agreement is based on the Teligent P90/E application platform, which is already in-service by many leading carriers, including BT, AT&T Wireless, Cingular, MCI, T-Mobile USA Telefónica, Telia, Tele2 and members of the Vodafone group. http://www.marconi.comhttp://www.teligent.se

New HomePlug AV Spec Promises 200 Mbps Powerline Networking

A new HomePlug AV specification, which is designed for sharing HDTV, Digital Audio, and Internet access around a home, is nearing completion. The HomePlug Powerline Alliance said laboratory tests and early field trials have shown that the preliminary specification enables the transfer of high-definition video and digital audio by simply connecting a device to an electrical outlet. The preliminary specification now being released to the alliance's Specification Working Group (SWG) for further input. Key features include:

• 200-Mbps capacity

KDDI Selects Motorola for CDMA2000 1X on 2GHz Net

KDDI has begun deployment of Motorola CDMA2000 1X solution on a 2GHz network -- a first, according to the companies. Nortel Ships Wireless Mesh Network

Nortel Networks began shipping a wireless mesh network solution designed to go beyond traditional Wi-Fi hot spots to provide secure wireless coverage indoors and outdoors throughout an urban area or large campus. The 802.11b Wireless Mesh Network connects access points installed inside or outside, and enables seamless roaming between access points. It incorporates 'auto discovery' and 'self healing' capabilities to simplify deployment and reduce service outages by automatically reconfiguring the network as access points are added or removed.

Broadcom Launches 0.13-Micron GigE Octal Transceiver

Broadcom announced a 0.13-micron octal transceiver optimized for high-port density Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switches, routers and server blades. Broadcom already offered quad and single port 0.13-micron Gigabit Ethernet PHY chips. The higher-density octal design enables lower cost 48-port or greater Gigabit Ethernet switches.



The new third generation 0.13-micron Gigabit Ethernet physical layer (PHY) device is capable of operating with less than 600-milliwatts per port, resulting in a 25% power reduction over existing Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet PHYs. The device incorporates a DSP transceiver engine to enable operation at Gigabit speeds over marginal cable plants. Broadcom said the device exceeds IEEE specifications for noise cancellation and transmission jitter. It also includes Broadcom's cable diagnostic capability. net.com Sees Rise in Quarterly Revenue, Microsoft Deploys ShoutIP

Network Equipment Technologies (net.com) reported quarterly revenue of $31.6 million, compared to $29.1 million for the preceding quarter, an increase of 8.6 percent, and $31.9 million for the same period last year, a decrease of 1.1 percent. Product revenue was $27.5 million, compared to $24.4 million for the preceding period. New products -- SCREAM broadband services platform, SHOUTIP for IP telephony services, and netMS for integrated network management -- represented more than 18% of product revenue, and nearly 16% of overall revenue.



The company reported net income of $1.4 million, or $0.06 per share for quarter, compared to a net loss of $829,000, or $0.03 per share, for the preceding quarter, and net income of $400,000, or $0.02 per share, for the second quarter of last year.



Microsoft Corporation selected net.com's ShoutIP platform as the gateway component in its global VoIP network. Microsoft selected SHOUT2500 for its Redmond headquarters and larger offices and SHOUT900 for its smaller offices.
