Intel Offers Custom 10nm Foundry for ARM

Intel will open its 10 nm FinFET Custom Foundry service to include ARM Artisan physical IP, including POP IP, based on the most advanced ARM cores and Cortex series processors.

LG Electronics will be the first customer for this 10 nm design platform.

Intel Custom Foundry already offered 22 nm and 14 nm foundry services.

Intel also noted that its EDA and IP ecosystem has also been growing over the past few years, as evidenced by the EDA enablement and certification announcements with partners such as ANSYS, Cadence, Mentor Graphics and Synopsys. Some customer highlights:

  • Achronix Semiconductor is in production on its Intel 22 nm Speedster 22i HD1000 networking silicon.
  • Netronome is in production on its Intel 22 nm networking silicon – NFP-6480.
  • Altera is using Intel's foundry platform to build the first true 14 nm FPGA, which offers unprecedented advances in PPA.

Rubik Launches Cloud Data Management Platform v3.0, Raises $61 Million

Rubrik, a start-up based in Palo Alto, California, closed $61 million in new venture funding and launched version 3.0 of its Cloud Data Management platform, which delivers data protection, search and analytics, archiving and compliance, and copy data management capabilities for hybrid cloud enterprises.

Rubrik's value proposition is to deliver data management functions in a single software fabric spanning with

  • Instant Access – Rubrik delivers instant application recovery and predictive global search by unifying data locked within disparate application silos into one globally indexed namespace while leveraging zero-data cloning technology to enable on-demand copy data workflows.
  • Automated Orchestration – Rubrik nearly eliminates daily operational management by enabling a single policy engine to orchestrate service level agreements across the entire data lifecycle. The Rubrik programmatic interface automates how data services are created, consumed, and retired across clouds.
  • Security and Compliance – Rubrik secures data whether in-flight or at-rest throughout its lifecycle, regardless of location. The Rubrik platform delivers granular user provisioning and data permissions across all cloud data management workflows while providing automated compliance reporting to successfully complete various industry and internal audits.

The $61 million Series C funding round was led by Khosla Ventures with heavy participation from existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greylock Partners and angel investors. The company has raised $112 million to date.

“As data centers are re-imagined for cloud, there’s a universal need for a data management platform that can orchestrate data anywhere – across private and public clouds. Just as Sun Microsystems ushered an era of client-server computing, Rubrik pioneers a cloud data management architecture that will fundamentally transform how enterprises manage and access their application data,” explains Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures. “Rubrik’s swift rise and unparalleled momentum demonstrate a massive market opportunity for such a cloud-enabled transformation.”

  • Rubrik is headed by Bipul Sinha, who previously was a partner at Lightspeed, where he invested in Nutanix (founding investor and board member), PernixData, and Numerify.) Its founders also include Arvind Jain, previously a Distinguished Engineer at Google where he started/managed the Google Fiber, MapMaker and YouTube and Search infrastructure teams; Soham Mazumdar, who was the co-founder and CTO at Tagtile, a mobile loyalty company (acquired by Facebook) and who co-founded Teragoogle, a complete re-architecture of Google's Search Infrastructure, for which he was awarded the Google Founder's Award; and Arvind Nithrakashyap, who led the real-time ad infrastructure team at Rocketfuel and previously co-founded the Exadata storage platform at Oracle.

MENA Submarine Cable Deploys Infinera DTN-X XTC

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Submarine Cable System, which is owned by Orascom Telecom, has deployed the Infinera DTN-X XTC Series platform across its subsea network. Specifically, the Infinera DTN-X XTC Series integrates the subsea network connecting the Mediterranean and Middle East regions with MENA’s existing Infinera terrestrial network.

The Infinera DTN-X XTC-10, featuring FlexCoherent technology and Instant Bandwidth, enables MENA to rapidly deploy bandwidth in increments of 100 Gbps.

MENA’s infrastructure provides wholesale capacity to global networks via Asia and the Middle East.

“This subsea network upgrade integrated with MENA’s existing terrestrial network enables MENA to deliver bandwidth quickly and efficiently on a critical route between Europe, Middle East and Arabian Gulf countries,” said Kamran Malik, CEO at MENA. “The Infinera DTN-X XTC Series provides robust reliability, flexibility and scalability, meeting the high standards that MENA seeks in a vendor. This helps MENA offer wholesale customers bandwidth as needed in 100G increments.”

“We are pleased to collaborate with MENA on its subsea network upgrade, integrating with the existing terrestrial network,” said Nick Walden, Senior Vice President, EMEA at Infinera. “This network upgrade enables MENA to provide differentiated wholesale international capacity in its markets and supports the growth of the Mediterranean and Middle East economy with on-demand scale and efficiency.”

AT&T Enhances Interoperability for Public Sector and Public Safety Networks

AT&T announced Inter-RF Subsystem Interface (ISSI), an IP-based, open-standard connection – APCO Project 25 (P25) for connectivity among public sector and public safety networks.
AT&T already supports CSSI lets customers connect dispatch console systems.

AT&T said public safety customers can connect their LMR networks to AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk to extend coverage and communications nationwide. AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk also meets the requirements of the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Publication 140-2. FIPS is a U.S. government computer security standard used to test and validate product security.

The end-to-end solution also integrates AT&T Dynamic Traffic Management to provide priority call treatment and network access based on Quality of Service network technology.

“With ISSI, the geographic and technological restrictions of LMR are a thing of the past,” said Walt Rivenbark, associate vice president of Advanced Mobile Solutions, AT&T. “We’re the first major U.S. wireless carrier to offer ISSI and CSSI connectivity to more than 2,500 public safety networks.”
