G.vector is a new technology standardized by the I.T.U. for overcoming crosstalk and noise on adjacent copper pairs in the access network. Infoblox Launches IPv6 Center of Excellence

Infoblox launched its IPv6 Center of Excellence, providing enterprise IT teams with expert IPv6 tutorials, resources, guidance, training and best practices. Infoblox IPv6 expert and eminent DNS authority, Cricket Liu, has been appointed Vice President and General Manager of the CoE.


Infoblox also announced today that Owen DeLong, IPv6 Evangelist at Hurricane Electric, has joined the Infoblox IPv6 CoE Technical Advisory Board.

Gigamon Extends Technology Leadership with Expanded Portfolio

Gigamon introduced its GigaSECURE data switching line. The GigaBPS intelligent bypass switch, which is the first product in the GigaSECURE family, provides intelligent visibility for both Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS). It could be used by Managed Hosting Providers to implement more advanced and scalable security practices when delivering Cloud services, where IPS connections feed virtual environments in both traditional and high-density data centers. The GigaBPS also enables improved cyber-security protection for Telco, Enterprise, Financial and Government environments where IPS is used to combat a broad range of information 'attacks' that are common today including malware, denial of service (DoS), and advanced persistent threats.

Time Warner Cable to Build $100 Million Data Center in Charlotte, NC

Time Warner Cable, which serves more than 14 million customers mainly in North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, Ohio, southern California and Texas, will build its next generation, national data center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The $101 million project is expected to create 225 jobs over the next three years.


The project is supported in part by a state grant from North Carolina's Job Development Investment Grant program.

  • In February 2011, Time Warner Cable agreed to acquire NaviSite, a provider of enterprise-class hosting, managed application, messaging and cloud services, for $5.50 per share in cash, or a total equity value of approximately $230 million. The deal represented a 33% premium to NaviSite's Tuesday's closing price.


    NaviSite operates ten data centers in the United States and the United Kingdom, including two SAS 70 Type II certified data centers, and network operations centers in Gurgaon, India and Andover, Massachusetts. It employs approximately 570 people worldwide. The company has approximately 1,200 customers and reported US$126 million in revenue for fiscal year 2010 (ending 7/31/10).

Verizon Readies LTE Innovation Center in Waltham, MA

On Tuesday, Verizon will officially open its new LTE Innovation Center in Waltham, MA. A ceremony and webcast is planned for 10am.


Companies participating in the Innovation Center include Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson North America, LiveEdge, TouchTune and VGo.

ZTE Completes First TD-LTE and 2G/3G Handover

ZTE completed an interoperability test (IOT) between TD-LTE terminals and GSM/UMTS/CDMA EV-DO networks.


This is the first IOT between a multi-mode TD-LTE terminal and non TD-LTE networks.


ZTE said the success of the test is significant for the entire TD-LTE ecosystem, proving that TD-LTE devices can work seamlessly with existing GSM, UMTS and CDMA EV-DO networks as well as with new LTE FDD and TD-LTE networks. It is expected to promote the convergence of TD-LTE and existing networks, and speed up TD-LTE network deployments.


"The test shows that devices for TD-LTE networks are close to market availability, and that ZTE's extensive TD-LTE expertise ensures that our existing 2G and 3G networks are able to handle traffic from TD devices," said Mr. Wang Shouchen, general manager of ZTE TD products.

Acacia Acquires 3G and 4G Patents

Acacia Research Corporation, which partners with inventors to license key technologies, has acquired rights to patents for 3G and 4G wireless technology from a major technology company. Financial terms were not disclosed.

SiTime Unveils MEMS VCTCXO for Telecom

SiTime Corporation unveiled a line of ultra-stable MEMS VCTCXO (Voltage Controlled, Temperature Compensated Oscillator) products targeted at telecom, networking and wireless applications like SONET and Synchronous Ethernet based equipment, cellular basestations and repeaters, GPS and instrumentation.


The devices are drop-in replacements for quartz-based oscillators but offer the durability and programmability of silicon MEMS technology. The new, programmable, Encore-based VCTCXO family consists of four devices, SiT5001, SiT5002, SiT5003 and SiT5004, all of which support frequencies up to 220 MHz, industry-leading stability as low as ±0.5 PPM and 500 femtoseconds of integrated RMS phase jitter (12 kHz to 20 MHz).


"SiTime has used its Silicon MEMS technology and programmable analog expertise to accelerate innovation in the timing components industry," said Piyush Sevalia, vice president of marketing at SiTime. Calix Wins Another Broadband Stimulus Project -- PRTC

Peoples Rural Telephone Cooperative (PRTC) of Kentucky has selected the Calix B6 Ethernet Service Access Nodes (ESANs), along with the 2000 family of optical network terminals (ONTs), to bring fiber-based broadband services to Jackson and Owsley counties in Kentucky.


PRTC will deploy GPON to deliver advanced services including expanded digital television services, extremely fast data services, and high quality VOIP services to more than 3,500 residences and businesses. The PRTC Broadband Stimulus award totals $25.5 million in overall funds, including a $17.9 million grant and a $7.6 million loan, which includes plant engineering, materials, labor, and other costs, including access equipment.


With this award, Calix has now been selected access vendor to three Broadband Stimulus projects in Kentucky, amounting to over $227 million in awarded funds, of which only a portion is access equipment.

China Telecom Awards 100G IP Routing Contract to Alcatel-Lucent

China Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent's IP routing and 100G technology for upgrades to its network. The contract was secured by Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Alcatel-Lucent's flagship company in China.


Specifically, China Telecom is using Alcatel-Lucent's 7750 Service Routers and 5620 Service Aware Manager portfolio to increase overall data speeds and support the prioritization of different kinds of internet traffic such as video, applications and voice.


Wei Leping, chairman of China Telecom Science & Technology Committee, said: "With the continuously booming broadband demand in the future, it's very crucial to maintain the network quality for smoothly delivering the applications. The Alcatel-Lucent solutions not only ensure our service quality but also give us the flexibility to upgrade to 100G smoothly in the future." By deploying Alcatel-Lucent's 100G solutions, the broadband network can handle tasks such as the transfer of 100,000 MP3 files in 60 seconds or the concurrent live streaming of over 15,000 HDTV channels.

The AntiSec band of hackers claims to have penetrated Booz Allen Hamilton, a leading defense contractor, and stolen tens of thousands of military email passwords. These were then posted to the Pirate Bay website. http://www.twitter.com

TELUS Picks DragonWave

TELUS will deploy a packet microwave solution from DragonWave to provide additional high-capacity connectivity for special events.


Specifically, TELUS selected DragonWave's Horizon Compact primarily because its all-outdoor, zero-footprint design that will allow for rapid deployment of service to remote locations without need for trenching optical fibre.
