TE Connectivity Completes Acquisition of Deutsch Group

TE Connectivity completed its previously announced acquisition of Deutsch Group SAS for EUR 1.55 billion (approximately $2.05 billion). Deutsch is a leading provider of high-performance connectivity solutions for harsh environment applications.

Meru Networks Sees Weaker Q1

Meru Networks issued preliminary unaudited guidance for Q1 2012, saying that it now expects to report first quarter revenue in the range of $19.0 million to $19.5 million. The company expects to report cash, cash equivalents and investments of approximately $36.6 million and outstanding borrowings on its existing credit facility of $6.9 million as of March 31, 2012.


"In fourth quarter 2011 and first quarter 2012 the company has been managing several key transitions," said William Quigley, chairman of the board of directors of Meru Networks. "Among the more notable ones were the search for, appointment and installation of Dr. Bami Bastani as CEO who started full time on April 2nd, the rapid expansion and training of the sales force, and the introduction of major new products. nTelos Wireless Gains iPhone 4S

nTelos Wireless will begin offering iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 on April 20. The carrier plans to offer lower pricing than its larger rivals in the U.S. market. The iPhone 4S will be available starting at $149.99 for the 16GB model, $249.99 for the 32GB model and $349.99 for the 64GB model. iPhone 4 will be available for $49.99.

Kabel Deutschland Selects Cisco CRS-3

Kabel Deutschland (KD), Germany's largest cable operator, has selected Cisco CRS-3 Routers for its Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network core to meet the growing demand for video, and broadband services. Kabel Deutschland has approximately 8.7 million customers. The company operates cable networks in 13 German federal states and supplies its TV customers currently with about 100 digital, 32 analogue TV channels as well as 26 high definition (HD) programs.


KD already offers consumer Internet at speeds up to 100 mbps using DOCSIS 3.0.

LTE Ecosystem Builds Momentum

A total 347 LTE-enabled user devices have been announced by 63 manufacturers, according to a new "Status of the LTE Ecosystem" report published this week by the GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association). Many of these products are carrier or country specific and are not available in all markets.


Research for the report considered user devices for FDD and TDD modes, form factors, operating frequencies, and the fallback technologies which are supported when customers move outside the LTE coverage areas (i.e. ability to access HSPA, HSPA+, DC-HSPA+, EV-DO, or TD-SCDMA systems).


Some highlights of the report:

  • A total of 64 LTE Smartphones announced to date.


  • A total of 131 LTE Routers.


  • A total of 64 LTE Dongles.


  • 217 LTE devices also operate on either HSPA, HSPA+ or 42 Mbps DC-HSPA+ networks. Within this figure, 91 LTE devices support 42 Mbps HSPA+ technology.


  • 108 LTE devices support EV-DO networks.


  • 170 devices are for 700 MHz (US Digital Dividend, various bands)


  • 72 devices are for 800 MHz (EU Digital Dividend, Band 20)


  • There are now 75 LTE 1800 user devices, which is 50% higher than GSA reported in January 2012.

SingTel Selects NetCracker for Service Delivery

Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) has selected NetCracker’s Telecoms Operations and Management Solution (TOMS) to replace a number of its legacy systems. This standards-based solution covers the design, planning, inventory, provisioning, and activation domains in SingTel’s next-generation infrastructure and reflects SingTel’s ongoing commitment to providing its customers with the most innovative services and the highest level of quality. Financial terms were not disclosed.


SingTel has a customer base of 434 million subscribers from its operations in Singapore and associates located in more than 25 countries.

India's Supreme Court Upholds 2G License Cancellations

India's Supreme Court has upheld its earlier decision forcing cancellation of 122 licenses issued to telecom operators for 2G spectrum after 2008 due to the charges of corruption in the ongoing scandal. Seven telecom companies had petitioned for review of the decision. However, the court will review the government's plan to auction theses licenses.http://supremecourtofindia.nic.in/

Netronome Advances its High Performance Flow Processors on Intel 22nm Technology

Netronome’s next-generation flow processors will be manufactured on Intel’s 22nm process, which leverages unique 3-D Tri-Gate transistor technology to achieve unprecedented gains in performance and power efficiency.


Netronome’s current generation of flow processors began with a technology license agreement with Intel in November 2007, reaching volume-shipments in 2011. These devices are targeted at high-performance network, security and content processing applications at speeds up to 100Gbps. NFPs simultaneously deliver packet processing with deep packet inspection, security processing, and I/O virtualization for millions of simultaneous stateful flows. NFPs are the industry’s only processor specifically designed for tight coupling with Intel Architecture (IA) processors, complementing and strengthening the growing success of IA in networking, communications, and security applications.


Netronome’s next-generation of processors based on Intel’s 22nm process and 3D Tri-Gate transistors will sample in 2013. Product specifics have not yet been disclosed.


Under the newly announced joint development and manufacturing engagement model with Intel, Netronome gains access to Intel's advanced fabrication tools, processes, and proprietary modeling capabilities, thereby reducing development costs and time to market, while increasing product functionality. The Intel partnership also brings co-optimized device packaging, assembly and test procedures, as well as access to Intel’s global footprint of foundries that are adopting 22nm.


Netronome said its adoption of Intel's 22nm technology will give it a four year head start over competitors, as other global fabs are not expected to make the leap to 22nm for some time and even then will not have the benefit of Intel's Tri-Gate.
