Verizon Business Adds Pricing Option for Wholesale IP Termination Services

Verizon Business introduced a new pricing option that provides wholesale customers with a detailed breakdown of the rates that are used to calculate the customers' monthly bills for Verizon Business' network services.



The new pricing option, Operating Company Number (OCN)-Based Billing, provides rates based on the underlying local exchange carrier (LEC) and geographic region for delivering voice and IP calls over the Verizon Business global network.



Verizon Business said this new option enables wholesale customers to better manage costs and pinpoint key markets in which to sell their services.



This new pricing choice applies to Carrier IP Termination SIP, Carrier IP Termination Transport and SIP Gateway Service long-distance calls; U.S. and non-U.S.-based toll-free calls; traditional long-distance calls; and international calls from the U.S.



With the introduction of OCN-Based Billing, Verizon Business wholesale pricing plans now include a range of options such as Transcend pricing, introduced in November 1995 as the first product to unbundle charges for long-distance transport and local exchange carrier charges; postalized Classic pricing; and Access-Based Billing pricing.

BroadLight, a supplier of GPON semiconductors and software, closed a $12 million series E financing round led by Benchmark Capital.



BroadLight's portfolio includes both CPE and network PON solutions for BPON and GPON equipment.

Wave7 to Provide Optical Gear for SEQUANTIC Project in Paris

Wave7 Optics will supply its Trident7 Optical Access Platform for a new municipal network called SEQUANTIC outside of Paris. This new point-to-multipoint network is a project initiated by the SIPPEREC public consortium, which represents the electricity and telecommunications interests of approximately 1.7 million residential, commercial and industrial customers located in 86 municipalities around Paris.

SEQUANTIC aims to provide very high speed external and internal connectivity to all buildings in more than 147 business areas, which together comprise more than 6,500 enterprises. It will be the first public based Fiber-to-the-User (FTTU) open-access network dedicated to business areas in the Paris region.

ID-RESO, the company created to manage the SEQUANTIC network, will deploy a Trident7 OLT solution configured for the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) EPON standard.

Wave 7 said its Trident7 FTTP platform can deliver standards-based EPON and GPON technologies simultaneously from one chassis, thereby allowing service providers greater flexibility.

A typical SEQUANTIC business service package will provide symmetric and guaranteed data services of up to 1 Gbps via the Trident7 platform.

SPIE Communications will provide delivery, implementation, support and maintenance services for the Trident7 solution.

Agilent Adds One-Box Test Set for Mobile WiMAX

Agilent Technologies introduced a wireless networking test set and OFDMA measurement application software, forming a one-box transmitter and receiver test solution for Mobile WiMAX devices. The test solution is designed for cell phone, ODM and CM manufacturing engineers testing WiMAX mobile subscriber devices or modules that use IEEE 802.16e-2005.



The Agilent N8300A Wireless Networking Test Set leverages Agilent's Vector Signal Analysis and Vector Signal Generator hardware.

UTStarcom Supplies IP-Based GEPON and VoIP in Pakistan

Bell & Tell has awarded a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract to UTStarcom to supply its Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) and VoIP technologies for a network rollout in Pakistan.



The first phase will consist of a multi-million dollar deployment of UTStarcom's GEPON, a FTTH/B platform that is designed to deliver high-speed voice, data and video services to residential and business subscribers. An iAN-08E Series VoIP Gateway will also be integrated into the network -- extending the existing phone equipment's functionality by enabling an end-to-end interconnection between legacy analog phones and voice-enabled broadband networks. Maxim Telecom, UTStarcom's local reseller, will help with the deployment of the network. The second phase, which will start in Q1 2008, involves expansion to additional regions in Pakistan.

Australia's Silk Network to Use Nortel's PBB and PBT

Silk telecom, which operates optical networks in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and key regional centers in South Australia and Victoria, has selected Nortel for its Metro Ethernet deployment.



The Silk network, valued in excess of US$1million, will feature Nortel's Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB) and Provider Backbone Transport (PBT) technology. Nortel said PBT makes it simple for service providers like Silk to use Ethernet as the fundamental carrier-grade transport technology.

Nortel's Metro Ethernet Networks solution for Silk includes its Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600s at the network core and aggregation layers, Metro Ethernet Services Unit 1850s at the access layer, with PBB/PBT technologies enabled for carrier-grade point-to-point and point-to-multipoint Ethernet transport.

DIRECTV to Use IP-Based Transmission in MDUs

DIRECTV announced its first planned deployment of its MFH3 (Multi-Family Housing version 3) technology for the delivery of all its satellite-delivered content and services using existing in-building distribution wiring. The IP-based MFH3 technology is a distribution platform that extends from a private "on-property" headend facility to each customer dwelling in a multi-dwelling complex.



The first deployment will be the Liberty Harbor project, a $1.5 billion waterfront development under construction in Brunswick, Georgia. In addition to a long list of resort style amenities, Liberty Harbor will feature a community based Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network that will deliver bundled communications, security and entertainment services to each of the 1,200 condos and 300 single family homes.

BT Expands MPLS Network in India

BT has activated a number of new MPLS nodes in India, bringing the number to 14 in India. Six cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune will have multiple nodes plus an additional one in Kolkatta.



BT said its regional network capabilities will be further extended with Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka receiving independent nodes by the end of April 2008.

Tennessee's North Central Telephone Deploys Occam

North Central Telephone Cooperative (NCTC), which is based in Macon County, Tennessee., has purchased components of Occam's Broadband Loop Carrier system to provide its customers with advanced services, including Triple Play and IP video. Specifically, the telco has purchased Occam's BLC 6252-02 ADSL2Plus blade. When NCTC's upgrade is complete, the telco will manage a hybrid network with video over copper lines out to 5,000 feet and active FTTH to subscriber areas beyond that. The deployment allows for multiple streams of high definition video as well as significant amounts of data bandwidth for subscribers. Financial terms were not disclosed.

TI Updates Financial Outlook

Texas Instruments its business outlook for the third quarter of 2007, . The company now expects:

• Total revenue between $3.56 billion and $3.72 billion, compared with the prior range of $3.49 billion to $3.79 billion;



• Semiconductor revenue between $3.36 billion and $3.50 billion, compared with the prior range of $3.29 billion to $3.57 billion; and



• Education Technology revenue between $200 million and $220 million, consistent with the prior range.

TI expects EPS from continuing operations between $0.49 and $0.53, compared with the previous range of $0.46 to $0.52. The revised EPS range includes about $0.02 from the gain on the sale of TI's semiconductor product line associated with DSL customer-premises equipment. The sale closed in July.

Verizon Names FBI Official as Chief Security Officer

Verizon Communications named Michael A. Mason, currently the executive assistant director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to be the company's new chief security officer. In his current position at the FBI, Mason is in charge of the Bureau's Criminal, Cyber, Response and Services Branch -- the largest unit in the FBI. The appointment will be effective in January following Mason's planned retirement from the FBI. He will replace Jim Trainor, who announced his intention to retire from Verizon at the end of this year.
