Mavenir and Acme Packet Partner on Voice+Messaging over 3G, 4G

Mavenir Systems, a developer of mobile convergence solutions, and Acme Packet announced a reseller agreement targeted at interactive communication services over 2G, 3G and IP-based 4G mobile broadband access networks.

The agreement enables Mavenir to combine its Converged Voice and Messaging solutions with Acme Packet's Net-Net session border controllers (SBCs) to significantly reduce the development costs, time-to-market and time-to-revenue for voice, mobility and rich communications services delivered over fixed and mobile broadband networks.

Specifically, Mavenir's Mobile VoIP solution extends Mobile Switching Center (MSC) voice, intelligent network (IN) and Short Message Service (SMS), as IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) application servers to offer services consistently across multiple broadband access domains. In addition, Mavenir's Rich Communications Suite (RCS) solution, combined with Acme Packet's Proxy Call Session Control Function (P-CSCF) solution, allows service providers to build global mobile social networks around a powerful set of building blocks--subscriber management, presence, instant messaging, web 2.0 services aggregation and media sharing.

The companies said their combined solution is currently supporting two Tier 1 mobile service provider customers in Europe and North America.

Alvarion Introduces Outdoor WiMAX Base Station

Alvarion has expanded its BreezeMAX portfolio with a new small footprint, 802.16e macro base station that implements the latest WiMAX 802.16e technology for multiple frequency bands.

The BreezeMAX Macro Outdoor base station is available for 2.3 GHz, 2.3 GHz WCS, 2.5 GHz , 3.5 GHz and 3.6 GHz frequency bands. It supports advanced mobility features such as handoffs, HARQ, Re-use 1 and 4x4 RF diversity. Re-use 1 will allow the most efficient use of spectrum and will introduce flexibility for operators to plan and deploy their networks. The higher order 4x4 RF diversity configuration will considerably improve the coverage in certain scenarios, thus enhancing the customer business case and requiring less investment in cell sites.

DragonWave Delivers 4 Gbps Wireless Links

DragonWave introduced its Horizon Quantum packet microwave radio system for mobile and access networks, capable of delivering up to a record-breaking 4 Gbps per link. The new DragonWave solution, which is optimized for the rollout of 4G services, features a native Ethernet implementation and sub-0.1-millisecond latencies. Clearwire plans to use the platform for its network.

DragonWave's Quantum packet radio leverages several innovations, including a unique "Bandwidth Accelerator" technology that allows it to achieve superior spectral efficiency. Depending on traffic type, the company said its Bandwidth Accelerator can deliver up to 5 times improvement in spectral efficiency with versus first generation microwave radios.

The half-rack-unit device incorporates key nodal-intelligence features and integrated switching capability. This enables Horizon Quantum to perform aggregation and serve as a switch for ring and mesh network architectures.

The Horizon Quantum -- scheduled to ship by the end of 2009 -- delivers interference-free performance in both licensed and unlicensed radio frequencies in the 6-to-38-GHz range. The carrier-grade DragonWave solution enables 99.999-percent service reliability, delivers advanced security and encryption and fully supports SynchE and other critical Ethernet data transport capabilities such as virtual local area network (VLAN) queuing/prioritization, flow control and jumbo packets. Its pseudowire capability enables Ethernet and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) traffic to be collapsed on a single, packet-based network. The Horizon Quantum is easy to install, configure and maintain and can be remotely managed.

"Clearwire's position as a global leader in deploying 4G service places us at the forefront of backhaul network development where we are today building one of the world's largest, most dynamic and cost-effective microwave backhaul solutions," said Dr. John Saw chief technology officer of Clearwire "To meet the growing demand for high-speed mobile connectivity, we need increasingly powerful, intelligent and cost-efficient solutions to capitalize on demand for bandwidth intensive and runtime sensitive applications. Horizon Quantum will help us achieve even higher capacity in our backhaul network to serve the increasingly high-bandwidth demands of our customers."http://www.dragonwaveinc.com
