Brocade Posts Revenue of $550 million, up 9% Sequentially

Brocade reported quarterly revenues of $550 million, an all-time record for the company in terms of revenue, representing an increase of over nine percent quarter-over-quarter, resulting in diluted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.05 on a GAAP basis and $0.14 on a non-GAAP basis.

Brocade attributed the record performance to a number of factors including an all-time company high in revenue for its Ethernet business, which is composed of products and services. On a quarterly basis, Brocade also experienced strong sequential revenue growth in its storage networking business as well as solid performances from its Americas and Asia Pacific operations.

"We are pleased with our Q4 performance which drove record revenues, growth in our Ethernet business and a strong finish to fiscal 2010," said Michael Klayko, CEO of Brocade. "Looking forward to FY11, we are particularly excited about Brocade's successful launch of the industry's first Ethernet fabric products and technologies, which we believe will serve as a catalyst for customers to rapidly migrate to virtualized data centers and cloud-optimized networks."http://www.brocade.com

NSN Introduces High-Performance GSM Base Station Controller

Nokia Siemens Networks introduced a new Flexi BSC (base station controller) that offers up to 80% reduction in energy consumption compared to previous models. The new Flexi BSC also provides a 40% increase in capacity and the ability to move to all-IP for communicating among the base station, base station controller and mobile switching center with two new flexible and cost-efficient transport features -- Packet Abis and A over IP. Maximum cost savings can be achieved using IP over Ethernet transport, the common transport technology for GSM, 3G and LTE.

The Flexi BSC offers a handling capacity of 4,200 transceivers and over 25,000 Erlangs in a compact and single cabinet. This implies that, with the new Flexi BSC configuration, operators can replace up to 32 existing base station controllers. With the benefits of an optical interface, fewer connections are required, which translates to reduced installation effort, faster rollout, and lower maintenance costs.

Flexi BSC also provides an evolution path to Nokia Siemens Networks' Multicontroller BSC that can be used to extend the capacity of Flexi BSC. The latest software for Flexi BSC and Transcoder TCSM3i is based on 3GPP Release 8 and the commercial deliveries are in progress.

"Higher voice capacity with fewer base station controllers reduces energy consumption, a major cost for operators, along with simplifying operations and maintenance resulting in lower OPEX," said Prashant Agnihotri, head of GSM/EDGE product management, Nokia Siemens Networks. "We are committed to driving scalable products that maximize operators' investment and provide a clear roadmap to all-IP. Whether it is greener networks, capacity, functional evolution or transmission, the new Flexi BSC is a milestone product."http://www.nsn.com
