SK Telecom Reports Strong 2Q 2024, Accelerates AI Investments

SK Telecom (SKT) announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2024, with revenue reaching KRW 4.4224 trillion (approximately $3.36 billion), operating income of KRW 537.5 billion (approximately $408 million), and net income of KRW 350.2 billion (approximately $266 million). 

A key highlight of the quarter was the company's strategic push into the AI sector, marked by securing its first AI cloud order from domestic internet service providers. SKT plans to scale up its AI cloud business significantly as part of its broader strategy to build a comprehensive AI value chain, including AI Data Centers and services. The company has invested over $300 million since last year to establish a strong foundation in AI, with further plans to invest $200 million in SMART Global Holdings to enhance its AI infrastructure capabilities.

Verizon Secures $4M Contract to Upgrade NLRB's 48-site SDWAN

Verizon has secured a new $4 million Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) contract with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), a federal agency dedicated to protecting private sector employees' rights. Under this agreement, Verizon will reconfigure and upgrade the NLRB’s Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) across all 48 branch offices and headquarters, while also providing new distributed security infrastructure and cloud hosting services. This contract reinforces Verizon's leadership in delivering EIS services to federal agencies and highlights their expertise in developing tailored, secure networking solutions.

The move comes as enterprises increasingly adopt Ethernet for its cost-effectiveness, interoperability, and reliability, making it a cornerstone of AI infrastructure. The Ultra Ethernet standards being developed by UEC will enable businesses to maximize their AI and HPC investments, driving innovation and improving operational efficiency.

The partnership underscores Pure Storage’s dedication to providing flexible and high-performance data storage solutions tailored to the evolving needs of AI and HPC workloads. By collaborating with other industry giants within the UEC, Pure Storage will play a key role in advancing Ethernet technology to meet the growing demands of modern enterprises.
