MEF certifies the first MEF 3.0 SD-WAN tech vendors

MEF announced the first technology vendors certified to support MEF 3.0 SD-WAN services: Nuage Networks from Nokia, Versa Networks, and Infovista.

This certification enables service and technology providers to validate the conformance of their services and products to the industry-leading SD-WAN Service Attributes and Services (MEF 70) global standard. MEF 3.0 SD-WAN certification tests the service attributes and requirements defined in MEF 70 and described in detail in the upcoming MEF SD-WAN Certification Test Requirements (MEF 90) standard. Customers who purchase MEF 3.0 certified solutions now can have greater confidence that they have met the highest levels of performance established by MEF – the world's defining authority for standardized network services.

“SD-WAN is gaining incredible excitement and momentum for empowering digital transformation,” said Nan Chen, President, MEF. “We congratulate Nuage Networks, Versa Networks, and Infovista for achieving MEF 3.0 certification and demonstrating that they are a standards-based partner for service providers developing SD-WAN services. We look forward to continued momentum with the MEF 3.0 SD-WAN certification program, including the announcement of our first group of certified service providers later this quarter.”

T-Mobile US added 1.9M subs in Q4 2019

T-Mobile US had 1.9 million total net additions in Q4 2019, the 27th quarter in a row with more than 1 million total net additions. For full-year 2019, T-Mobile had 7.0 million total net additions, including 4.5 million branded postpaid net additions - beating its increased customer guidance range of 4.1 to 4.3 million for the full-year 2019.

T-Mobile's total customer base was 86.0 million at year-end 2019, an increase of approximately 53 million since T-Mobile launched the Un-carrier in 2013.

“T-Mobile delivered another incredible fourth quarter with strong customer growth, despite a very competitive environment - and we did it while lighting up the country's first nationwide 5G network and working to close our merger with Sprint,” said John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile. “7 million net customers have chosen to join the Un-carrier movement in 2019, and they are choosing T-Mobile because we treat them right, we eliminate their pain points, and we are changing the rules of this industry for customers everywhere."

T-Mobile US activates 5G on 600 MHz nationwide spectrum

T-Mobile activated commercial 5G service using its 600 MHz spectrum. T-Mobile 5G is now active across its nationwide network, covering more than 200 million people and more than 5,000 cities and towns.

T-Mobile is offering two new 5G phones: the exclusive OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren and the Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 5G. Both units are ready to use Sprint’s 5G spectrum (2.5 GHz) when available from the New T-Mobile if the merger closes.

5G access costs the same as LTE.

“5G is here on a nationwide scale. This is a HUGE step towards 5G for All,” said John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile. “While Dumb and Dumber focus on 5G for the (wealthy) Few, launching in just a handful of cities — and forcing customers into their most expensive plans to get 5G — we’re committed to building broad, deep nationwide 5G that people and businesses can access at no extra cost with the New T-Mobile … and today is just the start of that journey.”

China Mobile employs Spirent for testing 5G Slicing Packet Network

China Mobile is working with Spirent Communications to assure readiness of mission-critical 5G applications via network slicing transport standard testing and validation.

Spirent's 5G transport and network slicing testing solution provides scalable protocol emulation and L2-L7 traffic generation over the slicing channel layer. Spirent’s solution expands SPN network slicing test capabilities to help ensure the diverse bandwidth, latency, security and time synchronization required by 5G applications.

China Mobile has chosen the newly-launched Spirent FlexE-100 test module to test functional and performance aspects related to 5G transport SPN (Slicing Packet Network). Specifically, Spirent’s FlexE-100 test module will be utilized to test the functional, performance and specification aspects related to 5G transport SPN.

SPN has been accepted by the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) for further work towards the G.mtn (Metro Transport Network) standard series, which provides an end-to-end transport network architecture that enables network slicing to meet the most demanding requirements of 5G applications. These standards are essential to successful deployment of ultra-reliable low-latency, high bandwidth, massive, scalable 5G services. Standards-based testing for SPN validates use cases, technologies and solutions prior to deployment, improving interoperability.

Commenting on the next-generation network testing work, Li Han, Vice Director of the Department of Network and IT Technology Research at the China Mobile Research Institute, said: "As operators, network equipment manufacturers and chip suppliers are developing SPN/MTN-enabled products, and exploring and expanding their applications in various scenarios, China Mobile has deployed 5G commercial SPN transport, providing reliable SLA for different 5G applications through multi-layer network slicing. We are pleased that Spirent launched the FlexE-100 test module on its flagship Spirent TestCenter platform and look forward to continuing our cooperation on SPN/MTN testing and use case development, with the goal of driving the commercial deployment of 5G transport network."

Anritsu intros Oscilloscope 53-Gbaud Clock Recovery Unit

Anritsu introduced a Clock Recovery Unit (CRU) option for its BERTWave MP2110A oscilloscope that supports trigger clock generation from a 53-Gbaud PAM4 optical signal.

When combined with existing oscilloscope functionality, the new 53-Gbaud CRU can evaluate various PAM4 optical modules during development and manufacturing compared to solutions requiring external sampling oscilloscopes.

Anritsu said it developed the 53-Gbaud CRU for the BERTWave MP2110A sampling oscilloscope to address expanding PAM4 signal analysis requirements. The solution is more economical than a sampling oscilloscope that requires a separate trigger clock signal synchronized with the data signal to conduct PAM4 measurements. This is due to the fact that optical modules outputting PAM4 signals typically do not have a trigger signal. The BERTWave MP2110A can be used by engineers to more efficiently evaluate the physical layer of 25G to 400G optical transceiver modules and equipment components, such as optical cables, used by data centers, Core/Metro networks, 4G/5G mobile backhaul, and 5G mobile fronthaul.
