KPN International Launches Business Partner Programme

KPN International is launching a Business Partner Programme in the UK, providing access to its wholly-owned fibre network across Europe which, complemented with global reach, covers 85% of the world economy and services over 26 million customers.



KPN is seeking channel partners wishing to tie into its international network, including 50 PoPs across 22 European countries. In addition KPN reaches 180 countries worldwide via 100,000 km of cables, plus partnerships with 30 regional carriers. Partners will be able to add KPN International's data services to their own portfolio of products and services. Nokia Siemens Networks to Transfer Italian Factories to Jabil

Nokia Siemens Networks Italy will transfer the manufacturing functions of its Cassina de' Pecchi and Marcianise facilities to Jabil Circuit Italy, upon completion of the legal asset transfer procedure. The deal has already received approval from the European Union (EU) antitrust authorities. The companies have also entered into a long-term manufacturing agreement.



The Marcianise site employs 336 and its main manufacturing lines are GSM and Edge Radio Access, while the Cassina site employs 276 and manufactures microwave devices for wireline and wireless networks.

Tektronix Enhances Spectra2 Platform

Tektronix announced the availability of Spectra2 XL, its enhanced Spectra2 VoIP and IMS test platform. Spectra2 XL features up to an 800% increase in load generation capacity for SIP testing, as well as increased capacity for the testing of other VoIP and IMS protocols.



Spectra2 XL builds on the company's existing multi-user Spectra2 platform by adding capabilities to address the test challenges of maturing VoIP networks while accommodating the needs of the emerging IMS market. Spectra2 XL leverages the same Spectra2 footprint, software and interfaces with the added ability to generate more test call traffic under real-life scenario conditions with speed and accuracy.



In addition, Tektronix announces its continued commitment to IMS, VoIP and converged test with its Spectra2 6.1 software release. The release provides new protocols and the introduction of additional multi-rate codec support in its tester, generator and media Quality of Service applications.

ITU Endorses WiMAX as IMT-2000 Standard

The ITU Radiocommunication Assembly (RA-07) formally recognized WiMAX technology derived from IEEE 802.16 by incorporating it as the sixth terrestrial IMT-2000 radio interface standard. This is the first addition to IMT-2000 since the original five were adopted years ago as part of the 3G radio standards being used globally and significantly pushes the technological envelope of IMT-2000 capabilities.



The specific terminology of the IEEE 802.16 standard in ITU-R M.1457 Recommendation is "IMT-2000 OFDMA TDD WMAN".



The ITU said its decision will help facilitate delivery of broadband wireless services at lower cost and include multiple wireless broadband Internet services, including VoIP.



Proposals to the forthcoming World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-07) starting next week in Geneva that will be requesting additional spectrum for the deployment of the IMT 3G-type systems worldwide will take into account the new IMT-2000 OFDMA TDD WMAN standards derived from the IEEE 802.16 mobile component.
