Sprint to Employ Mformation for WiMAX Device Management

Sprint has selected Mformation Technologies' mobile device management (MDM) solution to provide seamless device management capabilities for new WiMAX-capable mobile devices as part of the XOHM WiMAX mobile broadband initiative.

Device management ensures that WiMAX devices can be remotely activated and provisioned irrespective of their source, ensuring they work seamlessly and deliver a true mobile Internet experience. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Specifically, Sprint will use Mformation's advanced MDM technology to remotely activate, configure, diagnose, update, secure and manage a diverse fleet of WiMAX-capable devices throughout all phases of their lifecycle. This will ensure that services and applications are delivered smoothly across Sprint's WiMAX network, helping the company make the most of their WiMAX investments.

Mformation's integrated MDM platform supports Sprint's current CDMA device portfolio and offers the flexibility to evolve to support new network types, devices and value-added services. Mformation noted that it currently supports more than 1,400 devices across any mobile network type.http://www.mformation.com
  • In April 2008, Mformation Technologies extended its product portfolio for new WiMAX-capable devices. The goal is to remotely activate, configure, diagnose, update, secure and manage WiMAX-capable devices through all phases of their life cycle.

Mformation's MDM technology is currently being used to support over 100 million devices on some the leading mobile networks worldwide.

Mformation said the user requirements for device management will be much the same regardless of whether they are connected to an all-IP WiMAX network or a cellular network (including CDMA, CDMA 2000, GSM, GPRS, UMTS, WCDMA, HSPA). Regardless of what network their subscribers are using at any given point in time, service providers still need to configure services, remotely activate users, get a real-time view of devices, distribute and update applications and firmware, secure devices and data, and monitor service availability and performance.

BT to Install New Cisco ASR 1000 Aggregation Services Routers

BT Global Services intends to deploy the new Cisco ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers. BT Global Services has been involved in testing the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Routers prior to the product's launch in March this year. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The new Cisco Aggregation Services Router (ASR) 1000 is powered by a 40-core "QuantumFlow" processor and designed for massive scalability in packet intelligence in both service provider and enterprise networks. It packs up to 20 million packet per second (PPS) forwarding rate performance in a compact single router platform. As such, the ASR 1000 could be used to consolidate a number of networking appliances, including firewall, IPSec VPNs, deep-packet inspection (DPI) and Session Border Controllers (SBC). Over 42 patents were filed on the Cisco Aggregation Services Router 1000 Series.

Cisco is offering three versions of the platform: a 3-slot chassis with up to 15MPPS performance, an 8-slot version with up to 20MMPS, and a 12-slot version with up to 20MMPS. The two larger systems are 40G ready. Cisco also named several early customers of the ASR 1000, including NTT, Lufthansa Systems, and Wachovia.

Juniper Unveils its Next Gen WAN Application Acceleration Platforms

Juniper Networks unveiled its next generation WXC application acceleration platforms -- the WXC 1800, WXC 2600 and WXC 3400 appliances -- featuring higher disk capacities and performance in a smaller form factor.

The platforms are designed for helping businesses increase the efficiency of their existing WAN resources and improve application response times by providing a more LAN-like experience for branch office users accessing centralized applications.

Target applications include those leveraging TCP, UDP, MAPI, CIFS and HTTP/S. The Juniper WAN acceleration platforms deliver rich functionality such as QoS, content distribution and policy-based multipath along with an integrated configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting application. In addition, the WXC platforms seamlessly integrate application acceleration with Juniper's routing, switching and security technologies. The new platforms use software that fully automates provisioning and management tasks, which provide the network and application visibility to help deliver applications exactly as intended.

Juniper said its WXC platforms improve application performance over the WAN by recognizing and eliminating redundant transmissions, accelerating TCP and application-specific protocols, prioritizing and allocating access to bandwidth and ensuring high application availability at sites with multiple WAN links. On-board hard drives provide support for Network Sequence Caching, which enable the devices to store repeated data patterns, and can produce up to a 100-fold increase in effective WAN capacity. The new appliances can accelerate WAN traffic up to 2 Mbps for the WXC 1800--typically deployed at small to medium branch offices; up to 8 Mbps for the WXC 2600--typically deployed at medium to large branch offices and small data centers; and up to 45 Mbps for the WXC 3400 - typically deployed at higher speed remote locations, head office or data centers.http://www.juniper.net
