Deutsche Telekom Powers Home Gateway with Lantiq

Deutsche Telekom's flagship Speedport communications hub for in-home broadband services is powered by Lantiq silicon. The new Speedport W 921V Broadband Router is based on Lantiq chips for all its major functions including DSL, network processor, Gigabit Ethernet, 2.4 and 5G WLAN, DECT/CAT-iq, voice, and ISDN.

Features of the new broadband router include Wi-Fi streaming, ADSL/VDSL connectivity of up to 50 Mbps and DECT/Cat-iq HD-telephony. It supports dual band (2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz) Wi-Fi for concurrent data and media streaming, including IPTV, which allows for superior video quality transmission over WLAN.

Lantiq supplied key chips and core software used in the Speedport W 921V, including:

  • the XWAY VRX288 Home DSL Gateway chipset, which acts as a system central processor to support broadband access processing, wired/wireless connectivity, digital voice processing and other features

  • the XWAY PHY11G physical layer chipset to drive wired Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to external devices

Ixia Unveils 40/100 Gbps G.709 OTN Test Solution

Ixia introduced an optical transport network (OTN) test solution for 40 and 100 gigabit OTU3/4 rates for validating the performance and protocol scalability of packet switched core transport platforms.

Ixia's “XOTN? solution supports advanced MPLS and MPLS-TP protocol implementations. Ixia said its OTN solution, in conjunction with its IxNetwork test application, provides a much-needed large-scale, multi-protocol network emulation that is coupled with sophisticated line-rate traffic generation. The solution addresses service providers' requirements to validate service level agreement (SLAs) and resiliency over OTN networks, and to certify carrier-class routers with OTN interfaces. XOTN also addresses NEMs' requirements to validate new router OTN line cards using IP, MPLS, and Ethernet traffic, and to validate Ethernet data mapping over OTN transport. http://www.ixiacom.com/

Opnext Intros 2nd Generation 100G Coherent Technology

Opnext introduced a 100Gbps DWDM MSA transponder module based on second generation coherent technology, offering performance, power, size and cost advantages over first generation technologies.

The OTM-100 module is a fully-integrated, 100 Gbps optical transponder for metro, regional, long haul, ultra long haul and submarine transport solutions.

The 100G Digital Coherent Signal Processing LSI (DSP-LSI) in the digital signal processor is made by NTT Electronics Corporation and is the product of the "R&D on High Speed Optical Transport System Technologies" project which was supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. It leverages Soft Decision Forward Error Correction (SD-FEC) to improve reach, minimizing or eliminating the need for regeneration points, simplifies network deployment rules and reduces operating costs.

Mass production is slated for April 2012. http://www.opnext.com
