TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) is now delivering its Tier 1 Internet backbone network service at 100G to 365 Data Centers’ Detroit facility and its customers.
TSIC currently provides 100Gbps IP Transit services to customers in the region and worked with 365 Data Centers last year to provide 100Gbps services in six other cities including Buffalo, N.Y.; Tampa, Fla.; Nashville, Tenn.; St Louis, Mo.; Cleveland, Ohio; and Indianapolis, Ind.

TeliaSonera IC Delivers 100G Internet to SUP46
TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC), in collaboration with Cisco Systems, is providing a 100 Gbps Internet connection to Stockholm-based start-up hub, SUP46.
TeliaSonera International Carrier owns and operates a top-two ranked Global IP backbone. Using a new generation Cisco ASR 903, SUP46 gets direct access to a 100 Gbps backbone router at the core of TSIC's global network, effectively turning their downtown Stockholm premises into a high-capacity Internet PoP (Point-of-Presence).

Ericsson and TeliaSonera Test 5G Use Cases
TeliaSonera and Ericsson are working jointly on 5G use-cases and service scenarios, including both communication and Internet of Things (IoT) services with the purpose to address new business opportunities. The partnership will bring 5G services to customers in 2018 by combining the TeliaSonera network with Ericsson technology. Potential 5G applications could include e-health with real time surveillance of patients and remote treatment; connected cars including critical communication between vehicles (warnings, support to self-driving cars etc.) as well as better network performance in terms of capacity, coverage and power consumption.

TeliaSonera Sells its Stake in Nepal's Ncell
TeliaSonera will sell its 60.4 percent ownership in the Nepalese operator Ncell to Axiata, one of Asia’s largest telecommunication groups, for US$1,030 million on a cash and debt free basis. At the same time, TeliaSonera will dissolve its economic interests in the 20 percent local ownership and receives approximately US$48 million. The transactions are conditional on each other.
Axiata has more than 260 million customers and 25,000 employees. Axiata said Ncell will complement its portfolio of Asian telecommunications assets, which includes operations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Singapore and Pakistan. Axiata, which is listed on the Malaysian stock exchange, is a reputable company with a strong focus and expertise in South Asia and is also a long-term investor contributing to development and advancements of the countries it operates in.

TeliaSonera has deployed Metaswitch’s Network Interconnect Solution to better serve its customers in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
The installation, which includes Metaswitch’s Perimeta session border controller (SBC), secures real-time communications and delivers visibility into the network. In addition, Metaswitch’s Service Assurance Server (SAS) feature set offers network technicians tools for smarter, faster troubleshooting.

TeliaSonera IC Tests Coriant's 400G in European Network
TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has completed a test of Coriant's 400G optical transmission technology in its European backbone.
The trial used TSIC’s existing Coriant hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platforms with new Coriant CloudWave™ Optics, a versatile suite of software-programmable photonic layer technologies.
Conducted over multiple spans across a 1,634 kilometer fiber optic route between Paris, Luxembourg, and Frankfurt, the TSIC field trial featured the successful transmission of three different software-programmable modulation formats – QPSK, 8QAM, and 16QAM – over the complete distance of 1,634 kilometers each. The trial also featured a variety of line-side transmission speeds (100G, 200G, 300G, 400G) in a mix of capacity and reach application test scenarios. The link represented a popular network scenario, being based purely on Standard Single-Mode Fiber (SSMF) and EDFA-only amplification.

Ericsson to manage TeliaSonera Field Operations in Sweden
TeliaSonera has decided to outsource certain field operations in parts of Sweden to Ericsson.
The companies announced a five-year-agreement that expands Ericsson Managed Services footprint for fixed and mobile networks. The new deal builds on an outsourcing contract initially signed back in 2010.
Increased network complexity and performance expectations puts high demands on the operators to run their operations in a cost-efficient manner while providing world-class experience to their customers.

Telenor and TeliaSonera Plan JV in Denmark
Telenor and TeliaSonera agreed to merge their Danish operations into a new joint venture where the parties will own 50 percent each.The new company will have a combined mobile subscriber base of around 3.5 million for a combined mobile subscriber market share of approximately 40%, revenues of more than DKK 9 billion.
The companies said the merger will likely yield annual efficiency gains of above DKK 800 million, with full effect from 2019.

By combining the assets and customer bases of Telenor and TeliaSonera in Denmark, the joint venture will become a robust operator. TeliaSonera Acquires Tele2’s Norwegian Operations
TeliaSonera will acquire Tele2’s operations in Norway for SEK 5.1 billion (US$750 million). Tele2 has approximately 1.1 million mobile customers in Norway.
TeliaSonera said the deal adds to its base of 1.6 million users in Norway, giving it a 40% share of the market. The company has also committed itself to a 98 percent population coverage for 4G by 2016, two years ahead of its obligations.

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has selected Ciena's 5400 Reconfigurable Switching System for the pan-European segment of its global fibre network.
Ciena’s 5400 Reconfigurable Switching System is fully modular and leverages the company's WaveLogic coherent optics, which allows TSIC to quickly deploy this network as foreign wavelengths over its existing line system.
The companies said the deployment creates a scalable and flexible OTN-based network that promotes TSIC's vision to support service providers with bandwidth- and network-on-demand transport services. Financial terms were not disclosed.

TeliaSonera Announces Restructuring
TeliaSonera announced a corporate restructuring with the goal of increasing customer focus through clearer local accountability. The country structure will be grouped in three geographic areas; Europe, Eurasia and Sweden. TeliaSonera Dismisses Execs over Eurasian Deals
TeliaSonera announced the dismissal of four individuals because of irregularities in transactions and agreements made by TeliaSonera and partners in Eurasia over the past few years. The company had retained the international law firm Norton Rose Fulbright LLP to conduct a review of the deals.“The Board’s conclusion is that some senior employees no longer have the trust of the Board. Therefore they have been notified that their employment with TeliaSonera will be terminated and they will leave their position effective immediately. It is not the Board’s task to assess the legal aspects, but we have decided to hand over the material from the Norton Rose Fulbright review to the Prosecutor’s office as part of our continuous dialogue,” stated Marie Ehrling, Chairman of the TeliaSonera Board.
Separately, the company announced that Christian Luiga, currently Head of CEO Office, will assume the position as acting Chief Financial Officer, replacing Per-Arne Blomquist who will leave his position effective immediately.

TeliaSonera International Carrier Expands its North American Network
TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has added 11,500 fiber miles (18,400 km) to its North American network. The addition adds fiber routes from Chicago to Miami and then back up the eastern seaboard to Reston, Virginia.
TSIC said its network expansion plans will enable it to reach to 44 American cities while providing diverse connection into South America. The company cited 50 new enterprise accounts this year. Key customer segments include major Internet properties, gaming companies, content delivery networks, and large enterprises needing high-bandwidth across the TSIC global fiber network.

This expansion is about supporting that and the increasing interest for our offering in the Americas," says Erik Hallberg, President, TeliaSonera International Carrier. Infinera's Super-Channel SD-FEC Can Double Capacity for TeliaSonera IC North America
TeliaSonera International Carrier's (TSIC) North America terrestrial network can double the capacity of a key link by implementing Infinera's super-channel implementation of Soft Decision Forward Error Correction (SD-FEC) on the Infinera DTN-X platform.
Infinera completed a verification test on a production route between Houston and Phoenix in TSIC’s North America network. The company said the test verified the ability of Infinera's SD-FEC technology to double the available transmission capacity on this network link. Infinera also announced today that the SD-FEC capability is now generally available on the DTN-X platform.
Infinera’s DTN-X platform delivers the industry’s only long haul FlexCoherent 500 Gbps super-channels based 500 Gbps Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) and the FlexCoherent Processor. Infinera has deployed DTN-X networks in 30 countries with hundreds of super-channels activated into production. The DTN-X now offers SD-FEC, which is integrated into Infinera's third generation FlexCoherent Processor chip and combined with a world-record Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) compensation capability that is specifically engineered to optimize capacity and reach.

Infinera completed a verification test on a production route between Houston and Phoenix in TSIC’s North America network. The company said the test verified the ability of Infinera's SD-FEC technology to double the available transmission capacity on this network link. Infinera also announced today that the SD-FEC capability is now generally available on the DTN-X platform.
Infinera’s DTN-X platform delivers the industry’s only long haul FlexCoherent 500 Gbps super-channels based 500 Gbps Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) and the FlexCoherent Processor. Infinera has deployed DTN-X networks in 30 countries with hundreds of super-channels activated into production. The DTN-X now offers SD-FEC, which is integrated into Infinera's third generation FlexCoherent Processor chip and combined with a world-record Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) compensation capability that is specifically engineered to optimize capacity and reach.

Mobile Operators Agree to Network Infrastructure Sharing in Spain
Telefónica’s subsidiary Movistar and TeliaSonera’s Spanish subsidiary Yoigo agreed to a network infrastructure sharing in Spain.
Under the deal, the current national roaming contract for Yoigo to use Telefónica's 2G and 3G networks, signed in 2008, has been extended to 2016. This allows Yoigo to continue to offer mobile voice services throughout all Spain.
Telefónica will gain access to Yoigo’s 4G network. Yoigo was the first operator in Spain to announce the launch of 4G services -- beginning with Madrid in July. Telefónica will be able to use Yoigo’s access network over 1800 MHz, allowing it to offer its customers ultra-fast 4G mobile broadband services under its Movistar brand.
Yoigo's 4G networkuses 2x10 MHz in 1800 MHz. The rollout is expected to reach 48% of the population by the end of the year, which means bringing 4G to all cities with more than 70,000 inhabitants, making it the largest 4G network announced to date in Spain. To reach the speed permitted by 4G access, the agreement includes the use of Telefónica's transport network. To do this, Yoigo will contract new transmission capabilities from Telefónica, extending the agreement previously signed by the two companies.
Telefónica said it goal remain to build its own 4G network once the 800 MHz frequencies it was awarded in 2011, along with 2600 MHz and 900 MHz, are available, which represented an investment of around €900 million.
The agreement includes the commercial distribution of Telefónica’s fixed services by Yoigo. This enables Yoigo to offer its customers an integrated fixed mobile service - a service package of voice and fixed broadband with one or more mobile lines, including the subscription fee, at a fixed price and with one invoice only. The integrated product, which Yoigo will be able to commercialize in all its sales channels, will include its own mobile services and Telefonica’s fixed services of voice and broadband, both ADSL and fiber.
In addition, Yoigo and Telefónica will sell mobile towers to Abertis Telecom. The agreement is expected to be carried out in the fourth quarter of 2013. Abertis acquiring at least 4,227 passive infrastructures from these operators for €385 million. Albertis will upgrade most and dismantle those that overlap.
After this acquisition, Telefónica and Yoigo's equipment will be hosted on the same infrastructures. Yoigo expects to generate EUR 60-70 million, helping it to reduce future operating costs.

Estonia's EMT Picks Ericsson for 800 MHz LTE
EMT, a mobile operator in Estonia that is part of the TeliaSonera group, has rolled out LTE using a new 800 MHz license, nearly doubling the geographic footprint of its 4G network, which now covers 95% of the country. Ericsson delivered the 800MHz LTE network as a turnkey project in only two weeks.Valdo Kalm, CEO at EMT, says: "Now, 95 percent of Estonia is geographically covered by our LTE network, which is very good news for our subscribers. Over 30 percent of our mobile-broadband subscribers have already opted for an LTE plan, and now we’re bringing that option to people in the other half of the country. Together with Ericsson, we were the first to launch LTE in Estonia in 2010. Our close relationship with Ericsson made it possible to roll out the new bandwidth quickly, so our customers could start enjoying LTE services throughout the nation."
Ericsson provided the supply of radio network equipment, the upgrade and expansion of Packet Core to Evolved Packet Core, rollout, integration and deployment services. Financial terms were not disclosed.

TeliaSonera named Johan Dennelind as its new President and CEO. He comes to TeliaSonera from the Vodacom Group where he held the position as CEO Vodacom International based in South Africa. He started his telecommunications career as a trainee with Telia AB. TeliaSonera International Carrier Launches One of the World's Largest IPX Platforms
TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) announced the launch of TeliaSonera IPX running over its 100G, fiber backbone with 200 Points of Presence (PoPs) worldwide.
Available to both TeliaSonera group and external operators, at launch it carries TSIC’s roaming and signaling portfolio and VoIPX. This will be supplemented with LTE signaling services later in 2013 and a comprehensive suite of additional IPX services to follow.
