Arista debuts enterprise-class WAN Routing System

Arista Networks has begun customer trials of a new WAN Routing System that combines its enterprise-class routing platforms, carrier/cloud-neutral internet transit capabilities, and its CloudVision Pathfinder Service, which modernizes WAN management and provisioning, aligning the operating model with visualization and orchestration across all network transport domains

The Arista WAN Routing System aims for a consistent networking architecture across all enterprise network domains from the client to campus to the data center to multi-cloud with a single instance of EOS, a consistent management platform, and a modern operating model.

The new Arista 5000 Series of WAN Platforms, powered by Arista EOS, support enterprise-class WAN edge and aggregation requirement with 1/10/100GbE interfaces. The platforms deliver from 5Gb to over 50Gbps of bidirectional AES256 encrypted traffic with high VRF and tunnel scale. Use cases include:

• Aggregation and High-Performance Edge Routing – The Arista 5500 WAN System, supporting up to 50Gbps of encrypted traffic, is ideal for data center, campus, high-performance edge, and physical transit hub architectures.
• Flexible Edge Routing – The Arista 5300 WAN System is suited for high-volume edge connectivity and transitioning WAN locations to multi-carrier, 5G, and high-speed Internet connectivity with performance rates of up to 5Gbps of encrypted traffic.
• Scalable Virtual Routing – Arista CloudEOS is a binary-consistent virtual machine implementing identical features and capabilities of the other Arista WAN systems. It is often deployed in carrier-neutral transit hub facilities or to provide scale-out encryption termination capabilities.
• Public Cloud Edge Routing – Arista CloudEOS is also deployable through public cloud marketplaces and enables Cloud Transit routing and Cloud Edge routing capabilities as part of the end-to-end WAN Routing System. CloudEOS is available on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and through Platform Equinix.
• CPE Micro Edge – In addition to the fully integrated, dynamically configured, and adaptive Arista WAN Routing System platforms, the Arista Micro Edge is capable of small-site interoperability with the WAN Routing System to provide simple downstream connectivity options.

Arista also highlighted a partnership with Equinix to develop virtual and physical implementations of the Arista WAN Routing System that are globally deployable in Equinix data centers.

Arista posts revenue of $1.275 billion, up 54.7% yoy

Arista Networks reported Q4 revenue of $1,275.6 million, an increase of 8.4% compared to the third quarter of 2022, and an increase of 54.7% from the fourth quarter of 2021. GAAP gross margin was 60.3%, compared to GAAP gross margin of 60.3% in the third quarter of 2022 and 63.4% in the fourth quarter of 2021. Non-GAAP net income was $445.1 million, or $1.41 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $262.4 million, or $0.82 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Arista posts record revenue of $1.2 billion, up 57% yoy

Arista Networks reported Q3 revenue of $1.177 billion, an increase of 11.9% compared to the second quarter of 2022, and an increase of 57.2% from the third quarter of 2021. GAAP gross margin was 60.3%, compared to GAAP gross margin of 61.2% in the second quarter of 2022 and 63.9% in the third quarter of 2021. Non-GAAP net income was $391.9 million, or $1.25 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $236.9 million, or $0.74 per diluted share in the third quarter of 2021.

Arista clocks its first billion dollar quarter, acquires Pluribus

Arista Networks reported Q2 revenue of $1.052 billion, an increase of 20.0% compared to the first quarter of 2022, and an increase of 48.7% from the second quarter of 2021. GAAP gross margin was 61.2%, compared to GAAP gross margin of 63.1% in the first quarter of 2022 and 64.2% in the second quarter of 2021.

Non-GAAP net income was $342.7 million, or $1.08 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $216.8 million, or $0.68 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2021.

Commenting on the company's financial results, Ita Brennan, Arista’s CFO said, “We are pleased with overall business momentum in the quarter with strong revenue growth driving significant EPS upside and demonstrating the inherent operational leverage of the business model.”

“In Q2 2022, we achieved our first billion-dollar revenue quarter, despite the challenges of an uncertain supply chain environment,” said Jayshree Ullal, President and CEO of Arista Networks. “This record milestone further validates the customer value of Arista’s differentiated cloud networking platforms, now adopted by many of the largest cloud and enterprise customers around the world.”

Arista also noted its acquisition of privately-held Pluribus Networks.  Financial terms were not disclosed. Pluribus, which was based in Palo Alto, California, developed software-defined cloud fabrics. Ericsson has been partnering with Pluribus Networks for the unified cloud network fabric of the Ericsson NFVI solution since 2016.  Pluribus has also been endorsed by NVIDIA for DPU-based networking.

Arista delivers record Q1 sales despite supply chain issues

Arista Networks reported Q1 2022 revenue of $877.1 million, an increase of 6.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, and an increase of 31.4% from the first quarter of 2021.

GAAP gross margin was 63.1%, compared to GAAP gross margin of 63.4% in the fourth quarter of 2021 and 63.7% in the first quarter of 2021. Non-GAAP net income was $268.5 million, or $0.84 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $198.8 million, or $0.62 per diluted share in the first quarter of 2021.

Arista tunes its EOS and CloudVision for media/entertainment networks

Arista Networks is extending its Arista EOS and CloudVision software to support high-performance switched networks for media and entertainment customers. 

Arista Media Control Service (MCS), which is supported on all of Arista’s EOS-based platforms including the full range of Arista 7000-series 10/25/40/50/100/400G Ethernet switches, tunes the Arista network fabric for faster establishment of audio and video streams.

Arista embeds network detection and response into switches

Arista Networks is adding embedded security and packet analysis capabilities to its 720XP series of switches. 

By embedding NDR (Network Detection and Response) capabilities into the Arista EOS-based switches themselves, Arista says it can deliver broader visibility and threat hunting across the modern cognitive campus. 

The new capabilities build on Arista's Autonomous Virtual Assist (AVA) platforms with two key components: AVA Sensors and the AVA Nucleus. AVA Sensors support a variety of form factors from stand-alone appliances and virtual to cloud workloads and now, within campus power over ethernet (PoE) switches. The AVA Sensors analyze the full packet, including application layer data which sets the stage for automated and manual threat hunting. The sensors then transfer the “just right” deep-packet data to the AVA Nucleus, which is offered as both on-premises and SaaS. 

Arista will deliver the capabilities via a switch software upgrade . The company cites minimal impact on switch performance or reliability.

“Network security has been an ongoing challenge for most organizations due to hardware deployments and configuration changes needed at the network infrastructure level. While organizations acknowledge that the network presents a unique vantage point, security teams have been forced to trade off network visibility and ongoing operational costs,” said Rahul Kashyap, Vice President and General Manager of Cybersecurity and CISO at Arista Networks. “By building NDR capabilities into the switching infrastructure itself, Arista enables a built-in, secure network that reduces organizational risk by speeding up both time to detection and time to remediation.”

The new capabilities are expected to be generally available in Q2, 2022, with early trials in March 2022.

Non-GAAP gross margin was 64.3%. Non-GAAP net income was $262.4 million, or $0.82 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $197.7 million, or $0.62 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Introduced at OCP 2021, the all new Arista 7388X5 continues the modular system innovation from the 7368X4 and is compliant to the OCP Minipack2 specifications, doubling performance with 30% improved power efficiency. The Arista's 7388X5 shares Meta’s Minipack2 goals of a choice of form factor that supports high density 200G and 400G links. Arista offers a choice of operating systems with enhancements and supports additional use cases with operational efficiency benefits that simplify cloud network designs.

The Arista 7060X5 systems are the highest density 400G options for leaf-spine architectures, offering next-generation performance at the lowest power consumption and leverages the latest Broadcom 25.6Tbps silicon. With up to 64 ports of 400G in 2U, the 7060DX5-64S delivers 10.6Bpps that can be flexibly used in 100G, 200G and 400G environments.

“We are seeing customers of all sizes show interest in the next generation of 400G systems that provide incremental improvements without sacrificing backward compatibility. The 7050X4 Series 32 x 400G and 7358X4 Series 128 x 100G / 32 x 400G systems enable large enterprise and service provider customers to unlock the potential of 400G. 

Arista says the new systems provide a smooth evolution to higher performance without disruption to existing architectures and increase network capacity by 4 times over the previous generation. All parts of the 7358X4 are field replaceable, simplifying deployment and leveraging the same common equipment and modules as the Arista 7368X4 Series, accelerating the migration to 400G data center networks with up to 32 ports of 400G in 4RU with pay-as-you-grow flexibility.

The 7050X4 and 7358X4 feature:

• Enhanced network telemetry to detect and address congestion hotspots in real time
• Traffic management enhancements tuned for RoCE and NVMEoF workloads
• Support for 10G to 400G to ease the transition to higher performance compute

The new 7050X4 and 7358X4 are available in Q1 2022. The 7050X4 is available in a choice of two port configurations supporting 32 ports of 400G OSFP or QSFP-DD in 1RU. The 7358X4 modular system provides a choice of 25G, 100G and 400G ports.

Arista 7060X5 and 7388X5 doubles performance from the 7060X4 and 7368X4 in a choice of form factors:

• 64 x 400G in 2U fixed or 128 x 200G in 4U modular systems 
•  Increase network radix by a factor of 2 or allow the migration to 200G

The 7388X5 and 7060X5 will be available in 1H 2022, with customer testing currently in progress. Pricing starts at $1800 / 400G.

Arista expands its OS stack with Network Data Lake

Arista Networks has expanded its EOS software foundation with the introduction of the EOS Network Data Lake (NetDL) and an AI/ML-driven Autonomous Virtual Assist (Arista AVA).

In addition to network-centric state from Arista devices, EOS NetDL also enriches network data with third-party and external data integrations, enabling a wide range of applications to process, analyze, and derive operational insights and predictions from this data set.

Arista hits Q3 sales of $748M, up 23.7%, raises prices

Arista Networks reported Q3 revenue of $748.7 million, an increase of 5.8% compared to the second quarter of 2021, and an increase of 23.7% from the third quarter of 2020. GAAP gross margin owas 63.9%, compared to GAAP gross margin of 64.2% in the second quarter of 2021 and 63.6% in the third quarter of 2020. Non-GAAP net income was $236.9 million, or $2.96 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $192.0 million, or $2.42 per diluted share in the third quarter of 2020.

"We are experiencing strong demand for our pioneering client to cloud networking portfolio across all of our customer sectors. Despite a challenging supply chain environment, I am pleased with our delivery of another record quarter of Arista's financial results in Q3 2021," stated Jayshree Ullal, Arista’s President and CEO.

Arista’s board of directors has also approved a four-for-one stock split later this month.

On an investor call, Arista executives said the company increased its list prices effective November 4, 2021, averaging approximately 10% to offset price hikes ranging from 15% to as high as 200% across its entire supply chain. The company also noted that lead times of many components have extended to 50 to 80 weeks.

Arista also said services and subscription software contributed approximately 21.5% of revenue in the third quarter, down from 22.3% in Q2. International revenues is Q3 amounted to$ 191 million or 25% of total revenue down from 27% in the second quarter.

Arista expands its R3-Series routers for next-gen edge

 Arista Networks introduced new routers and enhancements to its EOS (Extensible Operating System) for next-generation network edge roles in the multi-cloud era. 

The new capabilities for virtual private networking and traffic engineering enable three additional edge use cases for multi cloud, metro and 5G RAN based on Arista’s cloud-grade routing principles.

• Multi Cloud Edge: Demand for public cloud services is creating the new cloud edge, created by the cloud footprint at the network edge to deliver services closer to the end customer. Cloud edges are being built globally, with 100G/400G directly connecting to the cloud, based on a repeatable Layer 3 architecture, common software-driven provisioning and programmatic traffic steering, to deliver uninterrupted service that scales globally.
• Metro Edge: Legacy router designs are degrading quality and end-user experiences for service providers. To meet the new bandwidth demand and faster connectivity for E-LINE and E-LAN services, service providers are upgrading their metro ethernet edge with Capex efficient, high density merchant silicon-based 100G/400G routing platforms. Additionally, to achieve Opex efficiency, service providers are simplifying protocol complexity by adopting a single protocol for multiple edge VPN services and driving consistent automation for the metro fabric - the combination for faster and scalable service delivery.
• 5G RAN Edge: 5G architecture is disaggregating traditional mobile backhaul, bringing the public cloud footprint in the RAN (Radio Access Network) for real-time localized service updates. Arista's Q2 sales hit $707 million, up 31% yoy

Arista Networks reported Q2 revenue of $707.3 million, an increase of 6.0% compared to the first quarter of 2021, and an increase of 30.8% from the second quarter of 2020. GAAP gross margin was 64.2%, compared to GAAP gross margin of 63.7% in the first quarter of 2021 and 63.7% in the second quarter of 2020. Non-GAAP net income was $216.8 million, or $2.72 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $167.0 million, or $2.11 per diluted share in the second quarter of 2020.

GAAP gross margin was 63.7%, compared to GAAP gross margin of 63.9% in the fourth quarter of 2020 and 64.7% in the first quarter of 2020. Non-GAAP net income of $198.8 million, or $2.50 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $161.7 million, or $2.02 per diluted share in the first quarter of 2020.

Arista enhances its CloudVision with automation

Arista introduced its CloudVision 2021 software platform with new automation capabilities designed to improve network agility and streamline enterprise business outcomes.

Arista describes CloudVision as a multi-domain management plane that brings cloud network operations to enterprise customers through a network-wide suite of automation, telemetry, and analytics, bringing consistency across data center, campus wired and wireless, and public cloud use cases. 

CloudVision’s existing network configuration management approach delivers streamlined network provisioning through a centralized ‘configlet’ model that leverages configuration inheritance and reuse principles. Building on this, Arista introduces CloudVision Studios: new capabilities for automating configuration workflows within CloudVision and providing a flexible abstraction between the business and the underlying network.

CloudVision 2021 cognitive capabilities include:

• New network latency and path selection dashboards - CloudVision can now receive Inband Network Telemetry (INT) data, a standards-based capability for exporting latency and path telemetry and is now available across a suite of Arista’s latest switching platforms. CloudVision then provides the operator with views of network congestion hotspots with an unmatched level of granularity, providing visibility that helps to root-cause network performance problems across campus and data center networks.
• Quality of Experience (QoE) Dashboard - In addition to video collaboration tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams, CloudVision now supports QoE monitoring for up to 25 applications, including Office 365, Google Workspace, Workday, Salesforce, and other enterprise application suites.
• A Performance Dashboard utilizing a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) Engine to deliver client-specific views on the end user experience, including application, radio frequency interference, network, and client-specific analytics such as DNS and DHCP state to provide a unified view of the end user experience and automated remedial action recommendations.
• CloudVision’s Radio Frequency (RF) Explorer delivers in-depth, live and historical views across the entire WiFi RF spectrum, delivering a comprehensive tool for monitoring, managing, and proactively troubleshooting RF-related issues.
• A suite of additional enhancements, including new dashboards for customizable infrastructure views, an updated events app, additions to the continuous compliance app for expert insights and product lifecycle tracking, and integrations with the Arista TAC knowledge base.

The new CloudVision 2021 feature sets are in customer trials now and will be generally available in Q2 2021.

Arista returns to growth with Q4 revenue of $648.5 million, up 17% yoy

Arista Networks reported Q4 2020 revenue of $648.5 million, an increase of 7.1% compared to the third quarter of 2020, and an increase of 17.4% from the fourth quarter of 2019. 

GAAP gross margin was 63.9%. Non-GAAP net income was $197.7 million, or $2.49 per diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net income of $183.4 million, or $2.29 per diluted share in the fourth quarter of 2019.
