Japanese Companies Form Mobile Semiconductor Joint Venture

Fujitsu, NTT DOCOMO, NEC and Fujitsu Semiconductor will form a joint venture to focus on the development and sales of semiconductors with built-in modem functions for use in communications equipment. The companies have previously collaborated on various designs. The joint venture aims to leverage this work, along with technologies individually held by the companies, to gain a competitive advantage in smartphones.

The new Access Network Technology Limited will begin operations this month with 85 employees. The ownership of th JV is as follows: Fujitsu 52.8%; DOCOMO 19.9%; NEC 17.8%; Fujitsu Semiconductor 9.5%.
