Nine months after the contract was awarded, Motorola has deployed Wateen Telecom's WiMAX network in 17 major cities across Pakistan, including Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. The network will be used to provide wireless fixed broadband data services for residential and corporate use.
The two companies have also carried out end-to-end voice and data calls over the network. The deployment uses IMS core technology in preparation for Wateen to offer voice, data, Internet and multimedia services to its subscribers.
