Virtela Raises $11 Million for IP VPN Services over Multiple Carrier Nets

Virtela Communications, a Denver-based provider of global IP VPN services, received a commitment of $11 million in new venture capital. Virtela's suite of managed IP VPN services is currently connecting customer locations in 30 countries using a carrier- and access-neutral strategy. Virtela's unique network infrastructure leverages proprietary algorithms that optimize transport of customer traffic over multiple best-in-class carrier networks, delivering higher performance and reliability at a lower cost than single carrier approaches. The Series C funding round was led by Norwest Venture Partners, joined by New Enterprise Associates, Palomar Ventures, North Coast Technology Investors and Newton Technology Partners. The new funds bring Virtela's total capital commitment to $86 million to date.
