CalTech Researchers Announce Breakthrough Optical Diode

Researchers at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena have created a silicon waveguide that channels light in only one direction. Standard waveguides are bi-directional. The break through, described in a paper in the journal 'Science', is a major step forward for optical logic chips.
