TeliaSonera to Market Wi-Fi Jack Service Point Content Servers

TeliaSonera agreed to market a new "Jack Service Point" wireless caching and provisioning server for ad-hoc, local-area wireless services and content distribution. Unlike WLAN hotspots that deliver generic Internet access and need broadband backhaul connections, the Jack Service Point functions as a standalone wireless content cache server capable of delivering content, information and services on location to a variety of mobile devices. The Linux-based server uses a cellular network connection for its backhaul connections. The platform was developed by WideRay, a start-up in San Francisco.
