Arelion an Telxius boost connectivity in North and Latin America

Arelion and Telxius are collaborating to provide multi-terabit connectivity into Telxius’ landing stations in Boca Raton and Jacksonville, Florida. This fiber network expansion establishes Arelion Points-of-Presence (PoPs) at each Telxius landing station.

For Telxius, it empowers customers with resilient Tier-1 optical transport and high-speed access to Arelion’s North American network. Together, Arelion and Telxius are making a significant investment in the Florida Peninsula to connect Latin American customers to North America through submarine and terrestrial systems.

Arelion’s PoPs enable resilient 400G Wavelengths services over open line systems supporting the latest coherent technology, seamlessly connecting Internet carriers and content providers to Arelion’s network in the United States. This network expansion complements Arelion’s existing presence at Telxius’ Virginia Beach landing station and further cements Arelion as a key terrestrial connectivity provider in North America.

Telxius’ Virginia Beach landing station is the landing point for three next-generation subsea systems connecting to Latin America and Europe: Brusa, Marea and Dunant. Telxius’ Boca Raton landing station is the terminal point for Telxius’ South America-1 (SAm-1) and upcoming Tikal submarine cable system, while Telxius’ Jacksonville landing station connects to the Pacific Caribbean Cable System (PCCS). Both landing stations provide diverse, high-capacity connectivity to the United States from Panama, South America and the Caribbean.

“Arelion’s new PoPs at Telxius’ landing stations along the Florida Peninsula will provide Latin American markets with high-capacity gateway access to the North American connectivity ecosystem,” said Edison De Leon, Regional Director Latam & Caribbean at Arelion. “Through this investment in the Florida Peninsula, Arelion continues our established partnership with Telxius to serve the technological needs of Internet carriers and content providers through complete, collaborative connectivity solutions.”

Integrating Infinera ZR/ZR+ Optical Modules with DriveNets Network Cloud

DriveNets and Infinera completed testing and certification of multiple Infinera ICE-X ZR/ZR+ modules that can be tunable, configurable, and manageable by DriveNets Network Cloud software. This will enable operators to reduce the number of network elements they need to manage and is made possible by advancements in ZR/ZR+ pluggables that support greater distances, eliminating most of the need for a separate optical network.

The joint DriveNets/Infinera solution includes enhanced network configuration and management software capabilities and enables DriveNets solutions to seamlessly manage and benefit from the unique programmability and flexibility offered by Infinera’s ICE-X coherent pluggable solutions.

It also enables network operators to leverage Infinera’s ICE-X pluggable solutions, such as 100G/200G Single Fiber bi-direction operation and 4x100G intelligent fan-out and offer new revenue-generating services such as 100G to 200G high-speed business services over single fiber PON infrastructures.

The use of ZR/ZR+ on DriveNets Network Cloud delivers significant savings by collapsing layer-1 to layer-3 communications into a single platform. It also eliminates the need for standalone optical transponders, lowering the number of boxes in the solution, and reducing operational overhead, floor space, and power. In addition, the DriveNets NOS (DNOS) supports the Infinera modules in multiple modes of operations, including ZR, ZR+ and Open-XR.

“Network operators are increasingly turning to open networking solutions that allow them to mix and match elements from multiple vendors, avoiding vendor lock,” said Nir Gasko, Vice President, Global Strategic Alliances for DriveNets. “Our integrated solution with Infinera enables operators to not only leverage the unique features of Infinera’s ICE-X ZR/ZR+ modules, but also benefit from the operational simplifications that the integration with DriveNets Network Cloud provides.”

“DriveNets disrupted the market by introducing a disaggregated software-based networking solution that streamlined networking hardware over standard white boxes and redefined the economic model of the network,” said Russ Esmacher, Senior Vice President, Strategy, Marketing, and Corporate Development at Infinera. “Integrating our ICE-X ZR/ZR+ modules with DriveNets Network Cloud takes this disruption one step further, enabling our joint customers to further lower their OpEx and build more efficient, scalable, and robust networks.”

Verrus reimagines data centers for dynamic power loads

Verrus, a new company backed by Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners, emerged from stealth to announce plans for next-generation data centers that address the systemic crisis in power consumption by "reimagining data center engineering from the ground up."

Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners (SIP) is an independent entity that emerged from Alphabet, the parent company of Google. SIP's anchor partners include the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP)—a leading infrastructure investor, and StepStone Group, one of the world’s largest private equity firms. SIP focuses on investing in, developing, and owning the next generation of infrastructure, covering areas such as energy, mobility, and digital infrastructure.

Verrus is at the forefront of developing a new breed of adaptable and efficient data centers, designed to accommodate both traditional tasks and AI-driven demands. By aligning its infrastructure with the fluctuating availability needs and the real demands of its clients' workloads, Verrus offers a tailored approach. Distinct areas within the facility are dedicated to different types of computing; for instance, one section might be reserved for critical operations requiring constant uptime, such as internet searches, while another area might be allocated for more flexible tasks, such as training AI models. This strategy ensures the highest levels of efficiency by being attuned to the specific needs of the workload.

Furthermore, Verrus enhances utilization by distributing power resources across different halls, avoiding the wastefulness of unused capacity. This approach allows for a dynamic adjustment of supply to meet actual demand, preventing resources from lying dormant. Moreover, Verrus opts for eco-friendly, large-scale battery storage solutions over diesel generators.
