Keysight posts strong Q2 drive by defense, satellite, 6G

 Keysight Technologies posted Q2 revenue of $1.39 billion, up 3% compared with $1.35 billion last year, or 5 percent on a core basis, which excludes the impact of foreign currency changes and revenue associated with businesses acquired or divested within the last twelve months. Non-GAAP net income was $380 million, or $2.12 per share, compared with $334 million, or $1.83 per share in the second quarter of 2022.

“Keysight delivered a strong quarter with record second quarter revenue, record gross margin, record free cash flow, and above guidance earnings per share demonstrating the resilience of our increasingly diversified business,” said Satish Dhanasekaran, Keysight’s President and CEO. “While navigating near-term macro dynamics, we continue to capitalize on growth opportunities and customer investments across multiple markets.”

  • Communications Solutions Group (CSG) revenue ws $937 million in the second quarter, down 3 percent over last year, reflecting a 7 percent decline in commercial communications, while aerospace, defense, and government increased 7 percent driven by radar, spectrum operations, space and satellite, and research in 5G and 6G technologies.
  • Electronic Industrial Solutions Group (EISG) revenue was $453 million in the second quarter, up 17 percent over last year, driven by growth across general electronics, semiconductor solutions, and next-generation automotive and energy technologies.

Keysight adds 400GE Network Cybersecurity Test Platform

 Keysight Technologies introduced its APS-M8400 Modular Network Cybersecurity Test Platform, an 8-port 400GE Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable Double Density (QSFP-DD) network security test platform for data center network equipment manufacturers (NEM) and operators.

Keysight’s APS-M8400 is a modular, 400GE network security test platform that aggregates compute and field programmable gate array (FPGA) resources to deliver hyperscale application and cybersecurity test and validation. Key benefits:

  • Industry leading 400GE port density: The APS-M8400 offers the ability to test 8 x 400GE QSFP-DD.
  • Ease of management: The APS-M8400 provides a centralized, “single pane of glass” management of up to 16 compute nodes reducing the management learning curve and simplifying system upgrades and maintenance.

Keysight intros 5G automated service assurance probe

Keysight Technologies introduced a set of 5G solutions for automated service assurance, end-to-end quality of experience (QoE) and quality of service (QoS) verification, and active testing in private and public 5G networks. 

Keysight's solutions for maintaining QoE and QoS in 5G networks includes its Nemo Industry Probe, which supports early detection of issues such as interferences originating from multiple sources. Accumulated, these interferences in the network lead to QoS issues that adversely impact the efficiency of an operation.

Keysight combines the new Nemo Industry Probe with Nemo Cloud and Nemo Analyze to provide advanced capabilities that enable network operators to remotely monitor and visualize key performance indicators (KPIs) such as latency, data connection quality, voice and video quality, and data throughput. These measurements take into account issues such as interferences introduced by wideband noise from machinery and other radio frequency (RF) signals that user equipment (UE) may encounter in highly complex environments.

Keysight also introduces the new Keysight Nemo Active Probe, an advanced 5G network active remote monitoring solution that is ideal for large-scale deployments in fixed and mobile locations such as airports, stadiums, shopping malls, and train stations. The monitoring solution enables wireless service providers and national regulators to assure 24/7 operational network service, meeting service level agreements (SLAs) established to ensure adequate 5G connectivity levels.


In addition, Keysight offers a cohesive, software-focused portfolio of private 5G network lifecycle management solutions for advanced network visibility, end-to-end performance, and security assurance as well as network optimization across the protocol and application stack.

Keysight and MediaTek test 3GPP Release 17 and 5G RedCap

MediaTek has used Keysight’s 5G Network Emulation Solutions to establish connectivity to its 5G chips using the 3GPP 5G Release 17 (Rel-17) and the 5G reduced capability (RedCap) specifications.

Through its collaboration with Keysight, MediaTek  established a 5G Rel-17 data call on its Dimensity 5G chipsets. This will allow MediaTek to accelerate the deployment of new Rel-17 5G features including reduced power use, and enhanced MIMO capability.

Keysight’s network emulation platform also enabled MediaTek to validate RedCap connectivity on its 5G chips. The 5G RedCap specification introduces support for wireless devices with reduced 5G capabilities. These devices are less complex, lower cost, and consume less power, allowing them to address new use cases such as industrial sensors and wearables.

Keysight's 5G wireless network emulators and device test solutions enable the entire mobile device ecosystem to accelerate the market introduction of new wireless devices by streamlining the workflow from early prototyping, development, and design verification to conformance, carrier acceptance, and high-volume manufacturing. These tools continue to rapidly evolve to keep pace with 5G market leaders offering unmatched breadth and depth of coverage.

Keysight reports record revenue and orders

Keysight Technologies reported quarterly revenue of $1.44 billion, up 11% compared with $1.29 billion last year, or 15% on a core basis, which excludes the impact of foreign currency changes and revenue associated with businesses acquired or divested within the last twelve months. Non-GAAP net income was $386 million, or $2.14 per share, compared with $338 million, or $1.82 per share in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Strong execution by our teams again delivered results ahead of expectations, while navigating supply, geopolitical, and macro dynamics,” said Satish Dhanasekaran, Keysight’s President and CEO. “We achieved record orders in the quarter and fiscal year, which underscored broad-based demand for Keysight’s high-value, differentiated solutions. Communications Solutions Group (CSG)

  • CSG reported revenue of $992 million in the fourth quarter, up 8 percent over last year, driven by 5G platform strength, continued O-RAN adoption, and investment in 800G and 1.6 Terabit R&D, as well as spectrum operations, cybersecurity, space, and satellite solutions. CSG reported growth across all regions.

Electronic Industrial Solutions Group (EISG)

  • EISG reported revenue of $451 million in the fourth quarter, up 20 percent over last year, driven by next-generation automotive and energy technologies, general electronics, and semiconductor solutions. EISG reported growth across all regions.

Nokia selects Keysight for 6G sub-Terahertz testbed

NOKIA Bell Labs has selected Keysight’s sub-Terahertz (THz) test bed to verify the performance of 5G advanced and 6G transceiver (TRX) modules. 

Modules to be tested use the radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) technology, including power amplifiers, transceivers, and antennas on a glass substrate, needed to support the extreme data throughput and reliable backhaul transmission requirements of 5G advanced and 6G.

NOKIA selected Keysight technology to accelerate research and development critical to supporting 5G-Advanced and 6G use cases that leverage millimeter wave (mmWave) and sub-terahertz frequency spectrum to wirelessly transmit large amounts of data across short distances. 

Keysight’s 6G test bed was chosen to verify, under both linear and nonlinear conditions, the performance of TRX modules, power amplifiers, and antennas. Nokia designed these network infrastructure components by leveraging complex modulation technology and spectrum in D-Band (110 GHz to 170 GHz) and E-Band (60 GHz to 90 GHz).

Keysight offers USB 80Gbps test solutions

Keysight Technologies announced a new set of USB 80Gbps test solutions to ensure compliance with the specifications implemented by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) standard. 

Highlights:

  • D9050USBC USB 80Gbps Transmitter Test (Tx) Software that rapidly and easily tests, debugs, and characterizes complex USB4 designs
  • N5991U42A USB 80Gbps Receiver Compliance (Rx) Test Software automates complex stress signal calibration and receiver test procedures to ensure consistency and repeatability
  • N7019A USB Type-C Active Link Fixture, which provides access to all Type-C signals via a live link to debug or decode acquired signals
  • D9010USBP USB Protocol Trigger and Decode, in conjunction with Keysight’s N7019A USB Type-C Active Link Fixture, offers configurable protocol-level searches and software-based triggering to debug and decode USB low-speed and high-speed traffic

Keysight intros new network packet brokers for 400G visibility

Keysight Technologies introduced new Vision 400 Series Network Packet Brokers to deliver advanced visibility in high-speed 400G hybrid networks.

The platform offers advanced packet grooming features that strip and terminate 20 different tunnel headers to eliminate blind spots in complex software-defined networks used for application delivery. Multiple port configurations support current network performance while ensuring the networks can be upgraded with 10G/25G/40G/50G/100G/200G/400G offerings. It also offers support for both NRZ and PAM4 standards for maximum port density and flexibility.

Keysight and Nokia Bell Labs transmit at 260 GBaud over 100 km

Keysight Technologies and Nokia Bell Labs have successfully tested a 260 GBaud ultra-high-speed optical signal transmission over 100 km of standard single-mode fiber (SSMF), exceeding the previous record of 220 GBaud.

The companies combined expertise with other research partners to create the record-breaking demonstration of 260 GBaud Dual Polarization Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (DP-QPSK) coherent transmission over 100 km single mode Fiber. The demonstration consisted of Keysight's new 260 GSa/s arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) (M8199B), which delivers more than 75 GHz bandwidth and a thin-film lithium niobate I/Q modulator with 110 GHz bandwidth. This enables R&D of transmission systems operated with symbol rates up to 260 GBaud and achieving net bitrates greater than 2 Tbps in coherent optical communications.

ECOC22: Keysight's waveform generator speeds well past 160 GBaud

Keysight Technologies introduced its M8199B arbitrary waveform generator (AWG), which provides R&D engineers a high-performance signal source for arbitrary signals that enables development of designs employing multi-level modulation formats (e.g. 64QAM) at well beyond 160 GBaud.

Applications beyond 128 GBaud demand a new class of generators that provide high speed, precision and flexibility at the same time. Keysight addressed these challenges with the company’s new M8199B AWG which offers a high performing signal source for arbitrary signals with sampling rate up to 256 GSa/s and analog bandwidth exceeding 80 GHz, including up to eight synchronized channels operating simultaneously.

Keysight’s new M8199B AWG provides research engineers the speed, bandwidth, precision, and flexibility to meet the challenges of next-generation applications, enabling data transmission greater than 400 Gbps per lane in intensity-modulation/direct-detect (IM/DD) and greater than 1.6 Tbps per carrier in coherent optical communications.

Highlights for the M8199B AWG:

  • Intensity-Modulation/Direct-Detect (IM/DD) and coherent optical applications: provides the flexibility needed for advanced research on new modulation formats to boost transmission rates to the next level. The M8199B AWG matches with high-speed research experimenting using multi-level pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM), quadrature-amplitude modulation (QAM) formats and other proprietary modulation formats at symbol rates approaching 200 GBaud. In addition, it provides stress signals to test next generation electro/optical components, digital signal processor application-specific integrated circuits (DSP-ASICs), and new algorithm concepts for multi-terabit transmissions systems.
  • Wideband radio frequency (RF) signal generation in wireless and aerospace/defense applications: addresses the latest developments in radar and wireless technologies which require generation of high-quality signals with modulation bandwidths well beyond 10 GHz. Generating those signals on an intermediate frequency (IF) rather than on quadrature signals is another important capability to support these applications.
  • Physics, chemistry, and general-purpose electronics research: enables users to generate any arbitrary waveform that can be mathematically described, including ultra-short pulses, wideband RF pulses, and chirps needed to investigate in applications such as chemical reactions, elementary particle excitation and quantum effects.

ECOC22: Keysight announces 224G BERT, paving way for 1.6 Tbps transceivers

Keysight Technologies announced a 224G Ethernet bit error rate test (BERT) solution to enable system-on-a-chip (SoC) makers to validate next generation electrical interface technology, accelerating 1.6 terabit per second (1.6T) transceiver design and pathfinding.

“Keysight is pleased to collaborate with Synopsys, and other semiconductor makers, capture early market opportunities associated with the transition from 800 gigabit per second (800G) to 1.6T,” said Dr. Joachim Peerlings, vice president of Network and Data Center Solutions at Keysight Technologies. “Keysight’s unique portfolio of high-speed digital interface test solutions enable SoC makers to validate the performance of 224G designs accelerating 1.6T design and pathfinding.”

Keysight says its M8050A BERT offers users a unique 224 Gbps test solution for electrical design and validation of transceiver SoCs used in data centers and networks for transferring large amounts of data at high speeds. Keysight’s M8050A BERT provides signal integrity that enables accurate characterization of receivers used in next-generation data center networks and server interfaces. Synopsys used Keysight’s M8050A BERT, M8199 Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) and Infiniium UXR-Series Oscilloscope to develop and validate 224G serializer/deserializer (SerDes) IP designs.

Keysight and IBM target Open RAN in Europe

Keysight Technologies and IBM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to pursue open radio access network (RAN) deployments in Europe.

IBM endeavors to use Keysight Open Radio Architect (KORA) solutions in the company’s Open RAN center of excellence (CoE), established in 2021, to help mobile operators drive innovation to meet the standards defined by the O-RAN ALLIANCE. IBM intends to integrate Keysight’s software-centric open RAN test, measurement and emulation tools with IBM’s Cloud Pak for Network Automation, an AI-powered telco cloud platform that enables the automation of network operations.

Based in Madrid, Spain, IBM’s CoE enables communications service providers (CSPs) to deploy IBM solutions in their laboratory environments or live networks to support private and industrial applications. IBM’s CoE aims to advance digital transformation in the telco industry and is supported by IBM Consulting.

“Keysight’s collaboration with IBM will help enable mobile operators to speed deployments of digital transformation tools that are critical in supporting industrial competitiveness in Europe,” said Kalyan Sundhar, vice president and general manager for Keysight’s wireless network access business. “The integration of Keysight’s open RAN test solutions with IBM’s Cloud Pak for Network Automation will help service providers in automating applications that are critical to delivering a wide range of connectivity services.”

Keysight implements Credo's retimer/gearbox for 800G test

Keysight has selected Credo's retimer/gearbox devices for its Layer 1-3 800GE network device and Ethernet protocol test solutions for network infrastructure. 

Keysight provides 800GE Layer 1-3 test coverage with an extensive set of use cases and break-out Ethernet port speeds from 800GE to 100GE, while leading the industry with the highest port density per rackmount unit in test solutions.

Credo said its devices were for two strategic test capabilities: First,  the chip-to-module, high performance SERDES with 112 Gb/s electrical lanes with PAM4 signaling for 1x800GE and related slower port speed support. Most importantly, the ability to provide auto negotiation and link training (AN/LT) – which are needed for support of passive and active direct attached copper (DAC) cabling required for switch and server interconnections within equipment racks that are deployed in high volume within data centers.

Keysight expands 800G test solutions with multimode interfaces

Keysight Technologies expanded its portfolio of 800G test solutions for the optical transceiver ecosystem. The latest addition to Keysight’s existing portfolio of 800G test solutions are new design and validation solutions that support multimode interfaces, which are critical for an energy efficient data center infrastructure. Keysight reports record revenue and EPS; raises outlook

Keysight Technologies reported Q3 revenue of $1.38 billion, up 10% compared with $1.25 billion last year, or 13 percent on a core basis, which excludes the impact of foreign currency changes and revenue associated with businesses acquired or divested within the last twelve months. GAAP net income was $338 million, or $1.87 per share, compared with $254 million, or $1.36 per share, in the third quarter of 2021. Non-GAAP net income was $363 million, or $2.01 per share, compared with $286 million, or $1.54 per share in the third quarter of 2021.

Communications Solutions Group (CSG) - reported revenue of $970 million in the third quarter, up 11 percent over last year, with strength in 5G, O-RAN, 400G, 800G, and high-speed digital applications, as well as cyber, space and satellite solutions.

Electronic Industrial Solutions Group (EISG) - reported revenue of $406 million in the third quarter, up 10 percent over last year, driven by general electronics, semiconductor measurement solutions, and next-generation automotive and energy solutions. EISG reported growth across all regions.

MediaTek picks Keysight to validate 5G devices equipped with MIMO

MediaTek has selected Keysight's integrated 5G new radio (NR) device test solutions to validate the radio frequency (RF) performance of 5G devices equipped with multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) and Massive MIMO antenna technologies in an over-the-air (OTA) laboratory-based test environment.

Keysight and MediaTek have worked together to achieve several industry milestones, including validation of the first 5G mmWave modem and the establishment of a 5G connection based on 3GPP Rel-16 specifications.

“Keysight is pleased to extend MediaTek’s lab-based test capabilities with software-centric test tools that enable the company to remain at the forefront of 5G innovation and technology development,” said Mark Wallace, senior vice president of Global Sales at Keysight Technologies. “Comprehensive MIMO test capabilities and early access to 5G NR 3GPP Release 16 test cases enable MediaTek to rapidly introduce chipsets for advanced 5G applications such as gaming, multimedia and live streaming of high-definition video.”

Keysight and Synopsys collaborate on RF and Millimeter Wave Design

Keysight Technologies has extended its collaboration with Synopsys with the integration of PathWave RFIC Design (GoldenGate) with Synopsys Custom Compiler design environment and Synopsys PrimeSim circuit simulation solutions. 

This will enable designers to validate complex radio frequency (RF) and millimeter wave design requirements for 5G/6G system-on-chip (SoC) and subsystem designs in the Synopsys Custom Design Family.

“We are migrating our RF design environment to industry-leading commercial tools and workflows based on the Synopsys Custom Compiler™ design and layout solution,” said Koji Tomioka, vice president at Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation. “Keysight’s RFIC design tool integrated with Custom Compiler provides best-in-class layout and simulation capabilities to design and verify our millimeter-wave radar chips. We anticipate that the Synopsys-Keysight collaboration will save us time versus the maintenance of our in-house developed tools.”

Keysight intros cloud-based Open RAN Architect Test

The Keysight Open Radio Access Network Architect (KORA) test solutions are moving to cloud-based deployment. In addition, the company’s LoadCore software for testing 5G Core (5GC), is now available as a metered, pay-as-you-go (PAYG) solution in AWS Marketplace to allow customers to scale costs with usage.

KORA is Keysight’s suite of test solutions that verify the functionality and performance of end-to-end O-RAN wireless infrastructure. A component of KORA, Keysight's LoadCore 5GC testing software enables customers to perform network capacity tests, measure device data throughput and model a wide variety of end-user behavior and mobility scenarios. A scalable 5GC network performance validation solution, LoadCore can verify that delivered connectivity service remains stable under various demanding conditions such as sudden spikes in network usage caused by disasters or other major events.

“As a cloud-based pay-as-you-go offering, users can purchase and provision KORA test solutions immediately to fit their testing needs,” said Kalyan Sundhar, vice president and general manager of 5G Edge to Core Solutions at Keysight. “This is an exciting new delivery model that offers customers the flexibility and scalability to use Keysight’s test solutions in the environment they want, in the cloud.”

Italy's Azcom picks Keysight for O-RAN testing

Azcom Technology, a provider of wireless solutions and certification services, has selected Keysight Open Radio Architect (KORA) solutions for verifying Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) equipment.

Based in Italy, Azcom uses KORA solutions to validate performance and compliance of O-RAN Radio and Distributed Units (O-RU and O-DU) implementation to specifications set by the O-RAN ALLIANCE, as well as to verify interoperability between these network elements. Azcom also uses the KORA test tools to perform O-RAN pre-certification and badging testing. 

Keysight’s end-to-end test capability enables Azcom to develop the company’s O-RAN compliant 5G O-RU with support across multiple standards, including 5G New Radio (NR), 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT).

NTU Singapore taps Keysight for 6G R&D in terahertz frequencies

The Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies in Singapore has selected Keysight's software-centric test and measurement solutions to advance 6G technology based on terahertz frequencies.

Keysight’s solutions will be used to validate on-chip terahertz electronic-photonic devices such as transceivers. Located at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), a leading research university, the centre leverages terahertz frequencies to develop a unique electronic-photonic hybrid approach. It can be used to design mobile devices capable of efficiently operating at data rates of up to several terabits per second (Tbps). Many emerging applications and future 6G use cases, including augmented reality, holographic communication and mobile edge computing rely on such high data rate speeds.

Celona picks Keysight’s Open RAN Architect test solution

Celona has selected Keysight’s Open RAN Architect (KORA) solution portfolio to validate the quality and reliability of 5G private network deployments for enterprises.

Celona is using several Keysight 5G radio access network (RAN) test tools, including:

  • Keysight’s user equipment emulation (UEE) test solution (UeSIM) to emulate real network traffic over radio and O-RAN fronthaul interfaces, enabling comprehensive base station performance validation across the protocol stack.
  • Keysight's S9130A 5G Performance Multi-Band Vector Transceiver (VXT), a non-signaling measurement system, to accelerate the validation of sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G base stations (gNodeBs) according to the latest 3GPP specifications.
