Deutsche Telekom Selects Marconi to test Optical Network Vision

Deutsche Telekom is using Marconi's wavelength division multiplex (WDM) systems to form the backbone of a research project that demonstrates its vision of a network of the future, called the Global Seamless Network (GSN). The Marconi SmartPhotoniX Multi-Haul DWDM platform will demonstrate the GSN ultra-long-haul transmission capabilities, employing existing fiber between the city of Berlin and the city of Darmstadt. In addition, the use of Marconi's GMPLS-enabled, integrated WDM transport and switching node will help Deutsche Telekom demonstrate powerful network resilience mechanisms and automated bandwidth provisioning.
