Conexant Launches its First Wi-Fi Chipsets

Conexant launched its first 802.11b-compliant baseband processor with an integrated medium access controller (MAC). The company is planning a line of Wi-Fi silicon solutions. The first device features a flexible radio interface with automatic gain control (AGC) that supports multiple 2.4 GHz radios. Antenna diversity, which allows for multiple antennas in a system, is supported by continually monitoring and selecting the antenna with the strongest signal. The device is in production now and is priced at $8 in quantities of 10,000.
