SyChip and SanDisk to Offer Secure Digital (SD) WLAN Card for PDAs, Digital Cameras

SanDisk, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage products, is planning to launch a new line of SanDisk Connect SD wireless products to enable Wi-Fi connectivity in digital cameras, cellular phones, PDAs, Point of Sale (POS) terminals and other handheld devices. The products will use SyChip's WLAN NIC design, which is based on the Secure Digital Input Output (SDIO) standard. The companies said the Secure Digital card is an ideal form factor for the wireless LAN because of its small size, low power consumption and ability to be removed if needed. SanDisk Connect products will include both a non-memory version and a version with 256 MB of flash memory. Retail availability is expected at the end of Q1.
