U.S. Courts Selects Level 3 for Nationwide Network

Level 3 Communications landed a multi-year contract with the United States Courts to provide network infrastructure and services to improve overall communications quality and management throughout the federal judicial system.

Under the General Services Administration (GSA) Networx Enterprise contract, Level 3 will deliver direct connections to each of the designated sites via IP virtual private network (VPN), optical wavelength and Ethernet access services. The expanded Wide Area Network (WAN) architecture will maximize network routing options and redundancy for nationwide communications traffic between all U.S. Courts sites to ensure greater reliability, security and operating efficiencies –the primary challenges facing multi-site organizations today.

The U.S. Courts were looking to simplify nationwide operations onto a single communications platform for nearly 300 sites, including the U.S. Courts of Appeals, U.S. District Courts, U.S. Bankruptcy Courts and U.S. Courts of Special Jurisdiction.

Level 3 said the contract also covers session initiated protocol (SIP) trunking services, capitalizing on enhanced WAN connectivity to provide an Internet-based platform for local- to long-distance voice services. Level 3's Voice Complete portfolio of SIP-based services will deliver enhanced service options and a growth platform for the future, while also ensuring greater continuity of operations and disaster recovery (COOP/DR) by streamlining voice communications management for the federal judicial system.

AT&T's NetBond Links Customer VPNs Directly to Salesforce

AT&T customers will soon be able to link their Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) directly to Salesforce cloud services.

AT&T's NetBond capability will connect to Salesforce services directly from an AT&T MPLS VPN from any location on the private network. AT&T said its NetBond is designed to match the simplicity and elasticity of cloud computing services like Salesforce.

“The addition of choice in how users connect to Salesforce is game changing for enterprise customers who need high performing and reliable access to industry-leading cloud services,” said Andy Geisse, CEO, AT&T Business Solutions. “This is an important addition to our growing AT&T NetBond ecosystem and will further accelerate enterprise cloud adoption.”

AT&T highlighted the following advantages for NetBond:

  • Simple: Seamlessly works with existing AT&T VPN through APIs creating an automated experience; no additional equipment or access lines required to order or manage.
  • Savings: Network elasticity that automatically flexes with the needs of the cloud service; companies can save as much as 60 percent on networking costs.
  • Performance: Delivers as much as 50 percent lower latency and 3x availability when compared to the public Internet.
  • Protection: Isolates traffic going directly to cloud platforms using the AT&T private global network, providing additional protections from risks such as DDoS attacks.

Telstra Announces Application Assured Networking Service

Telstra introduced an "Application Assured Networking" service that provides enterprises with more control over the increasing number of financial, relationship management, IP telephony, video conferencing and other business applications on their network. The new service will initially allow an organisation to produce reports on how networks are being used by applications which can be viewed via an easy-to-use secure online portal on the Telstra Business and Enterprise website.
