NETGEAR's Q3 sales drop 14% yoy to $249.6 million

NETGEAR reported Q3 2022 net revenue of $249.6 million, a decrease of 14.0% from the comparable prior year quarter. Third quarter 2022 GAAP net income per diluted share of $0.10, as compared to $0.31 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “In the third quarter, we achieved revenue in the upper half of our guidance range, enabled by continued strong demand for our high-end WiFi mesh, 5G mobile hotspots, and ProAV managed switches. We delivered record revenue in the SMB business despite continued supply challenges throughout the quarter and experienced year over year growth in end user demand for our super premium WiFi mesh systems and 5G mobile hotspots. The overall market for super premium WiFi mesh, led by us, continues to grow year over year while the rest of the WiFi market contracted double digits, a strong validation of our CHP product strategy. We came in below guidance on operating margin due to supply constraints, primarily on our SMB and premium CHP products, which resulted in a missed opportunity to further improve our product revenue mix overall.”

NETGEAR reports solid demand and improving supply chain

NETGEAR reported Q2 2022 revenue of $223.2 million, a decrease of 27.7% from the comparable prior year quarter. Second quarter 2022 non-GAAP net loss per diluted share of $0.19, as compared to net income per diluted share of $0.66 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “In the second quarter, we delivered both revenue and non-GAAP operating margin above the high end of our guidance range. Strong execution by our team in navigating supply chain headwinds drove the outperformance, most notably for our ProAV managed switch, super premium WiFi mesh and 5G mobile hotspot products, and, as a result, each of these categories delivered double-digit year over year growth. This improved supply picture fueled strength in our SMB business, which delivered record quarterly revenue, and sales to our service provider customers, and we expect this momentum to continue into the second half as demand remains robust and our supply situation continues to improve.”

Mr. Lo continued, “Within our CHP business, we are pleased with our progress in growing the super-premium mesh market. This once again reinforces our strategy of focusing primarily on the premium, higher margin segments of the market and targeting those consumers with the highest propensity to subscribe to our service offerings. Accordingly, we continue to make progress growing our services business, ending the quarter with 654,000 paid subscribers, and remain on track towards our end of the year target of 750,000 subscribers.”

Bryan Murray, Chief Financial Officer of NETGEAR, added, “During the second quarter of 2022, we repurchased approximately 678,000 shares of common stock for $15.0 million. Preserving strong liquidity and generating cash remain paramount as the pandemic and its related supply chain challenges continue to persist. We expect to continue to opportunistically repurchase shares in future periods.”

Mr. Murray continued, “With solid demand and improving supply, we expect SMB and the service provider channel to continue to gain momentum in the back half of the year. We expect third quarter revenue from the service provider channel will be approximately $40 million, and SMB revenue to grow sequentially. With some of our US retail customers intending to shrink their inventory positions further, we expect to continue working with them in the coming quarter to optimize their inventory levels. Together, these factors lead us to expect our third quarter net revenue to be in the range of $240 million to $255 million. While the supply picture continues to improve, we still expect to spend on airfreight to maximize our SMB revenue. As a result of these factors, our GAAP operating margin for the third quarter is expected to be in the range of (1.0)% to 0.0%, and non-GAAP operating margin is expected to be in the range of 1.5% to 2.5%. Our GAAP tax rate is expected to be approximately 22.0%, and our non-GAAP tax rate is expected to be 15.0% for the third quarter of 2022.

NETGEAR cites COVID-induced lockdowns in China for sales dip

NETGEAR reported Q1 net revenue of $210.6 million, a decrease of 33.8% from the comparable prior year quarter.

First quarter 2022 GAAP operating loss of $58.5 million impacted by non-cash impairment charges of $44.4 million, or (27.8)% of net revenue, as compared to operating income of $31.3 million, or 9.9% of net revenue, in the comparable prior year quarter. First quarter 2022 non-GAAP net loss per diluted share was $0.28, as compared to net income per diluted share of $0.99 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “We ended the first quarter with net revenue of $210.6 million and non-GAAP operating margin of (4.4)%, within the range of our recently revised guidance. We continued to experience strong demand for our SMB products, especially on our ProAV switches; however, our ability to deliver meaningfully higher revenue was constrained by COVID-induced lockdowns in China which impacted supply of components to our supply chain partners. On the CHP side, we saw the continued year over year and sequential growth in end user sales of our super-premium mesh products represented by our Orbi 8 and Orbi 9. Meanwhile overall CHP sales were negatively impacted by the U.S. consumer WiFi market contracting from approximately 15% above 2019 levels entering the first quarter to roughly flat to 2019 exiting the first quarter. The lower top line performance negatively impacted our operating leverage and resulting margin performance in the quarter.”

Mr. Lo continued, “In spite of these challenges, it’s clear that our core long-term strategy of focusing on the premium, higher-margin segments of the WiFi mesh market and the ProAV revolution remains intact. As the pioneer of the Tri and Quad band WiFi segment we are seeing great reception of our $1,500 Quadband WiFi 6E Orbi. Buoyed by the success of our premium WiFi products, we ended the quarter with 627,000 paid subscribers for our services business and remain encouraged by this progress towards our full year target of 750,000 subscribers.”

NETGEAR reported Q4 2021 net revenue of $251.2 million, a decrease of 31.6% from the comparable prior year quarter. Q4 2021 GAAP net loss per diluted share was $0.03, as compared to net income per diluted share of $0.99 in the comparable prior year quarter. Fiscal 2021 net revenue was $1.17 billion, a decrease of 6.9% from the prior year.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “Our team continued to execute through a challenging supply environment to deliver fourth quarter revenue of $251.2 million, and non-GAAP operating margin of 2.7%, both within our guidance. The team delivered Q4 year over year revenue growth of 8.6% for SMB products, which contributed to growth of 27% for the full year, despite significant supply challenges that limited our ability to fully meet continued strong SMB demand. On the CHP side of the business, we successfully completed our efforts to optimize channel inventory in the fourth quarter and we are pleased to share that we saw the U.S. consumer WiFi market remain stable at 15% above 2019 levels.”

NETGEAR cites continuing supply chain constraints, freight costs

NETGEAR reported second quarter 2021 net revenue of $308.8 million, an increase of 10.3% from the comparable prior year quarter. Second quarter 2021 non-GAAP net income per diluted share of $0.66, as compared to $0.54 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “Second quarter revenue came in at $308.8 million, representing 10.3% topline growth year over year. Worldwide supply chain constraints, however, such as component shortages, increased freight costs and transit times, and factory closures due to COVID-19, led to a perfect storm of factors that held back our revenue number and saw us fall short of our operating margin goals. As we continue to navigate through this rapidly changing environment, our long-term thesis that premium WiFi will drive the growth of the consumer networking market and our service subscriber base remains intact. With vaccination rates rising and businesses reopening, work from anywhere and hybrid work models are here to stay and we anticipate that the U.S. consumer networking market will grow 20% above pre-pandemic levels in the second half of this year. Meanwhile, demand for our SMB products rebounded strongly in the second quarter as businesses reopened post-COVID. Despite supply constraints, SMB net revenue grew approximately 58% year over year.”

NETGEAR's Q1 revenue soars to $317.9 million, up 38.3% yoy

NETGEAR reported Q1 2021 net revenue of $317.9 million, an increase of 38.3% from the comparable prior year quarter. First quarter 2021 GAAP net income per diluted share of $0.72, as compared to net loss per diluted share of $0.14 in the comparable prior year quarter. First quarter 2021 non-GAAP net income per diluted share of $0.99, as compared to $0.21 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “With both businesses performing well, Q1 marks a strong beginning to the year for us. The NETGEAR team again navigated the ongoing challenges in the supply chain to deliver strong revenue growth. Our revenue came in at $317.9 million for year over year growth of 38.3%, and we delivered record non-GAAP operating profit of $42.3 million, a non-GAAP operating margin of 13.3%. The higher than anticipated demand for SMB products propelled us over the high end of our topline guidance range. Non-GAAP operating margin significantly exceeded expectations, buoyed by a higher mix of SMB and higher margin e-commerce revenue as well as lower air freight expense.”

Mr. Lo continued, “Our outstanding first quarter was powered by strong demand across both of our businesses. Our SMB business benefited from the reopening of economies worldwide, notching strong sequential growth of 8.5% and year over year growth of 17.9%. Our CHP business again saw strong growth year on year, led by the premium segment, and we continue to hold a leading market share position in this fast growing, highly lucrative segment. This allowed us to gain share globally, and most notably we saw our US market share in consumer WiFi climb two points in the first quarter. All of this has translated into continued success in our efforts to grow our recurring subscription services business, as we added 44,000 subscribers, exiting the quarter with 481,000, and keeping us on track to reach our goal of 650,000 subscribers by the end of the year.”

NETGEAR's Q3 sales leap 42% to $378 million

NETGEAR reported Q3 net revenue of $378.1 million, an increase of 42.2% from the comparable prior year quarter. Third quarter 2020 non-GAAP net income per diluted share amounted to $1.13, as compared to $0.65 in the comparable prior year quarter.

Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “The robust demand for WiFi that reliably covers the entire household continued in Q3 and signs point to this trend continuing well into next year. We entered the quarter sharply focused on delivering to this demand and our team worked tightly with our supply chain and retail partners to produce outstanding results. In Q3 we grew revenue 42% year over year to $378 million. With the elevated revenue level unlocking leverage in the business, the result was record earnings per share. As the pandemic persists, it is clear that families are adapting their lives to accommodate the need to pursue more of their daily activities virtually from home. This “more from home” transition is stretching well beyond work and school to include movie premieres, doctor visits, grocery shopping, fitness classes and visiting loved ones, and they now all require a whole home, fast and reliable WiFi connection. ”

Mr. Lo continued, “This trend naturally buoys the CHP side of the business, where our growth is strong across wireless routers and mesh systems and mobile hot spots. We continued to adapt our SMB offerings in Q3 to drive more sophisticated home office setups, including low port count switches and commercial grade WiFi, generating 23% sequential growth. In Q3 we added seventy six thousand subscribers for a total of three hundred and sixty nine thousand, and have already exceeded our full year goal of doubling our subscribers from the end of last year. We are poised to continue this momentum.”

NETGEAR: booming demand for home network upgrades started in March

Consumers in the U.S. rushed to upgrade their home office set-ups beginning in March.

NETGEAR reported Q2 rvenue of $280.1 million, an increase of 21.3% from the comparable prior year quarter. Second quarter 2020 GAAP operating income was $8.9 million, or 3.2% of net revenue, as compared to operating income of $0.3 million, or 0.1% of net revenue, in the comparable prior year quarter.

"Patrick Lo, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NETGEAR, commented, “The NETGEAR team navigated challenging conditions to accommodate the robust end demand we saw during the quarter, all while working remotely. Driven by the CHP side of the business, we achieved revenue growth of 21% and more than doubled our operating profit over the prior year. The surge in demand that began in March continued throughout the entire quarter and resulted in strong growth in both the retail and service provider channels for the CHP business. The work-from-home transition taking place worldwide is driving the adoption of high performance WiFi at home as an indispensable necessity and, as the leader in WiFi 6 technology, we stand well positioned to enable this new reality. In conjunction with the increased penetration of high-end WiFi 6 mesh systems and routers into the market, we accelerated the acquisition of new service subscribers, particularly in cybersecurity protection and parental control services, growing our paid subscriber base 28% sequentially and putting us on a trajectory to exceed our goal of doubling our subscriber count in 2020.”

Mr. Lo continued, “As many employees continue to work from home today, companies are growing increasingly confident that their workforce can be productive remotely and are beginning to measure the positive aspects of remote work. This is driving a consensus that remote work will be a larger part of the landscape even as the pandemic eventually eases. As a result, we see strong demand for high performance home WiFi continuing to fuel our revenue growth at least through the rest of this year. While providing an unexpected tailwind for CHP, the pandemic has at the same time created a headwind for SMB."

NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 Wi-Fi Home Router Hits 5.3 Gbps

NETGEAR introduced its latests Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router (R8500) delivers a blistering combined speed of 5.3Gbps (1000 Mbps + 2166 Mbps +2166 Mbps) using Wave 2 803.11ac technology-- a new record for a home router.

The unit is powered by a 1.4GHz dual core processor, patent-pending Active Antennas to boost range, and three Wi-Fi bands with quad-streams.  It also uses 1024 QAM modulation and and MU-MIMO technology. It boasts a total of eight antennas, four internal and four patent-pending external Active Antennas. Unlike typical antennas that simply relay the Wi-Fi signal received from your devices to the router, Active Antennas amplify the Wi-Fi signal within the external antenna itself. This compensates for the low power of Wi-Fi devices to provide a more symmetrical connection for both receiving and sending wireless signals, which contributes to improving overall range and speed at long range.

In addition, the Nighthawk X8 offers a unique Dynamic QoS prioritization capability that recognizes each individual application and the device it is running on, and prioritizes their network traffic accordingly. The unit also provides a port aggregation capability (also known as “port trunking”). The router has six Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, the largest number available on a mainstream home router. Two of these ports can be aggregated to double the gigabit connection to a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device — such as all current NETGEAR ReadyNAS models with two Ethernet ports — to support 4K HD streaming, faster backups, and faster file transfers.

It has an MSRP of $400.
