Huawei and Telefónica Demo SDN-based IP + Optical

Huawei and Telefónica completed a joint test on Software-defined Networking (SDN)-based IP and Optical integration
.

The test used Huawei's commercially available routers and Optical Transport Network (OTN) and Reconfigurable Optical Add-drop Multiplexer (ROADM) optical transport platforms.  The companies demonstrated multi-layer restoration, multi-domain Label Switched Path (LSP) creation, and online network survivability analysis. The new elastic SDN-based IP and Optical network architecture uses centralized controller, Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) User-Network Interface (UNI), IP/MPLS, PCEP (Path Computation Element Protocol) and other key technologies to realize centralized control of the multi-layer multi-domain network, achieving E2E fast service provisioning, multi-layer restoration for improved service availability and CAPEX savings, and online network surveillance for preventive maintenance.

"This project is another example of Huawei's breakthroughs in promoting the commercial use of SDN networks. The evolution from traditional networks to SDN networks will open up network capabilities, support rapid technology innovation, improve network performance, as well as reduce operation and maintenance costs based on virtualization, automation, and intelligentization. Huawei will continue to cooperate with industry-leading operators to promote the commercial use of SDN networks," stated Mr. Zha Jun, President of Huawei's Fixed Network Business Unit.
