The FCC is proposing to make up to 195 MHz of additional spectrum in the 5 GHz band (a 35% increase) available to unlicensed wireless devices. The proposed modifications would provide access to additional contiguous spectrum with consistent technical requirements, allowing unlicensed devices to use wider bandwidth channels, leading to faster speeds.
Specifically, the FCC is looking at adding the 5.35-5.47 GHz and 5.85-5.925 GHz bands for Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) use.
