Global Broadband Surpasses 624 Million Lines, FTTx Grows Fastest

Global broadband subscriptions have surpassed 624 million, according to the latest figures released by the Broadband Forum and prepared by broadband industry analysts Point Topic.

Point Topic reports strong 12-month growth rates for FTTx (27%) and FTTH (23.4%) and for the first time the market share for DSL fell below 60%.

Some other highlights:

  • IPTV services have brought more than 69 million new set-top boxes into Connected Homes.
  • IPTV added 15.9 million subscribers over the past year, including 3.57 million over the last quarter.
  • China, France and the U.S. continue to lead in terms of IPTV adoption.  Russia is also seeing faster IPTV adoption.
