China Education and Research Network Picks Huawei for 100G DWDM

The China Education and Research Network (CERNET) has selected Huawei as the supplier of the 100G WDM network for its Project 211 (phase 3). This phase of Project will cover the entire country with 100G network links, making CERNET the world's largest nationwide academic internet in terms of geographic coverage. Financial terms were not disclosed.

With Huawei’s coherent WDM technology and OTN equipment, the 100G network will cover metropolitan areas, such as Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Chongqing. DWDM will carry up to 8 Tbps over a single fiber, offer a transmission distance of 11,400 km with 913km biggest single span without REG (Regenerator).

"Huawei's deployment of the ultra-long-haul network for CERNET is a significant milestone in 100G’s commercialization," said Mr. Cai Changtian, president of Transport Network Product Line, Huawei. "Huawei will continue to make strong contributions to the optical communication industry with consistent innovation and efforts in the optical domain."

Huawei noted that it has deployed over 40 trial and 15 commercial 100G networks to date.
