Force10 Intros 10/40 GbE Top-of-Rack Switch and 40 GbE Line Card

Force10 Networks introduced its S-Series S4810 10/40 GbE top-of-rack (ToR) switch, while for the network core, it is announcing a new 40 GbE line card for its ExaScale virtualized core switch/router.

The S4810 10/40 GbE ToR switch leverages a non-blocking, cut-through switching architecture to deliver line-rate Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding capacity with ultra low latency. It provides 48 dual-speed 1/10 GbE ports as well as four 40 GbE uplinks to conserve valuable rack space.

The new oversubscribed 40 GbE line card for the company's flagship ExaScale virtualized core switch/router will ship to customers in the first half of 2011.

  • In March 2010, Force10 Networks announced the availability of a new 40-port line-card that increases the density of its ExaScale E1200 virtualized core switch/router to 560 10 GbE ports in a single half-rack chassis. Force10's 40-port 10 GbE line card is the latest solution based on the ExaScale suite of advanced, packet processing and switching ASICs that leverage Force10's high performance hardware and software design knowledge, patented backplane technology, and performance, reliability and flexibility.
