NEC Launches MPLS-TP Packet Transport Device

NEC introduced a next generation packet transport device that uses MPLS-TP to enable carrier networks to migrate to packet based networks.
The MN5000 series is designed for interworking IP and Ethernet with existing ATM and TDM networks. NEC said its new platform will assist with the migration of existing backhaul networks and metro/core networks to packet based next generation transport networks.

MN5000 Series shipments are scheduled to begin in December, 2009. NEC is showcasing the new platform at this week's Broadband World Forum 2009 in Paris.

MPLS-TP is being standardized through cooperation between the IETF and ITU-T.
