Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom has awarded a EUR 72 million contract to Nokia Siemens Networks for a 3G network upgrade project aimed at facilitating speeds of up to 2 Mbps in the uplink and 14 Mbps in the downlink.
Specifically, Chunghwa Telecom will trial Nokia Siemens Networks' Internet High Speed Access (I-HSPA) network. Nokia Siemens Networks will deploy its Flexi Base Station and mobile softswitching solutions, along with a high capacity/connectivity RNC and packet core solution, including CombiSGSN and FlexiISN, to boost the overall High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) performance of the network. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks will continue to rollout its IP backhaul solution, to further reduce traditional transmission costs. With deliveries starting immediately, the project, which includes network implementation and design, optimization, systems integration and maintenance services, will be completed by July 2009.http://www.nsn.com
