Motorola Supplies WiMAX for Pakistan's wi-tribe

Motorola has signed a multi-year WiMAX contract with Pakistan's wi-tribe, a new all-new wireless broadband Internet provider entering the market. Motorola will supply infrastructure and a comprehensive services package.

This includes its WAP 400 WiMAX access point, which features diversity MIMO antenna capabilities to enable strong indoor penetration. Motorola will begin deploying wi-tribe's WiMAX network from this month in the 3.5GHz spectrum. Commercial launch is expected during 2009. Financial terms were not disclosed.


wi-tribe Pakistan Limited is a joint venture between Qatar Telecom (Qtel) and Saudi Arabia's A.A.   • In January 2008, Motorola announced a contract with Wateen Telecom-Pakistan for the supply of 198,000 end-user WiMAX customer premises equipment (CPE) devices for both indoor and outdoor use. The deal is described as one of the world's largest WiMAX device orders to date. Financial terms were not disclosed. Motorola is also supplying its 802.16e WiMAX and IMS solutions for Wateen Telecom's nationwide WiMAX network under previously announced deals.
