AMCC Announces10GbE LAN/WAN PHY Device for Metro-Ethernet

Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) announced a 10GbE PHY for 10GbE, 10G Fibre Channel, and WIS (OC-192/STM-64) network applications. The new S19263 represents AMCC's second device in its MEtrON (Metro Ethernet Optical Networks) product family. It is a highly integrated XAUI to XFI physical layer integrated circuit for Ethernet and Fibre Channel LAN and WAN applications based on SFP+ or XFP optical modules. It is also pin-to-pin compatible with AMCC's recently announced PEMAQUID S19258.

Significantly, the new device supports operation in a -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C industrial temperature environment, critical for Metro-Ethernet and Carrier Ethernet applications. It is also fully compliant to IEEE(R) 802.3-205 and XFP4.5 standards.

"As the convergence of Ethernet and SONET-based networks continue to accelerate, our customers have been requesting a 10GbE LAN/WAN PHY that can meet their need for a Metro-Ethernet and Carrier Grade Ethernet system and can function reliably in extreme temperature conditions," stated Neal Neslusan, Director of Transport Marketing at AMCC.
