mig33 Raises $10 Million for Mobile Internet Community Service

mig33, a start-up offering a mobile Internet community, closed a Series A funding round of $10 million co-led by Accel Partners and Redpoint Ventures, with substantial contribution from Technology Venture Partners.



mig33's mobile phone based global communications service offers inexpensive mobile VoIP calls, instant messaging, text messaging and social networking and community features. It uses an application that works on most mobile phones, even basic models, regardless of carrier.



The service is in beta in more than 200 countries, including India, Monaco and South Africa and the company claims more than 4 million users are sending more than 15 million messages every day. The service will launch in the U.S. and additional countries in the coming months.
