Serbia Broadband Launches DTH Service with Scientific-Atlanta

Serbia Broadband - Srpske Kablovske Mreze (SBB), the country's largest cable operator, has chosen additional Scientific-Atlanta products and systems to create its DVB-S DTH (direct-to-home) headend and uplink. The carrier has already deployed hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) cable network using gear from Scientific-Atlanta.

will use Scientific-Atlanta encoders at several local Serbian broadcasters to create video streams for transport over an IP network to its new Scientific-Atlanta digital headend. There, the local content will be combined with popular programming channels for the new DTH service.

Scientific-Atlanta equipment will also provide multiplexing and transrating services to allow SBB to use transponder capacity efficiently. Scientific-Atlanta's iLynx platform will be used to connect the headend with the remote uplink site.

At the uplink site, Scientific-Atlanta is providing antennas, upconverters and amplifiers to deliver signals to the satellite. Wiring, installation and configuration for the entire transport, headend and uplink capabilities are being conducted by Scientific-Atlanta's systems integrator, professional services and consulting arm, SciCare EMEA Professional Services. Additionally, a ROSA network and management and control system in place to monitor the complete HFC network will be expanded to monitor the DTH operation.
