Siemens Enters BPON Market

Siemens Communications is entering the FTTP market with a new family of standards-based broadband passive optical network (BPON) products, including optical network terminals (ONTs) and optical network units (ONUs). The Siemens BPON family supports multiple environments such as single-family residences, businesses and multi-dwelling housing units.


Other Siemens BPON family features include:

  • Throughput of up to 100 Mbps on an Ethernet port and up to 622 Mbps over a full service access network (FSAN)-compatible fiber connection.


  • Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) capable to support current and next-generation network requirements.


  • Integrated radio frequency (RF) return channel for integration with subscriber facilities.


  • Power management lifeline services via battery backup and battery monitoring.


  • Hardened enclosure for outdoor environments.
