IPDR.org Releases Public WLAN Roaming Specifications

The Internet Protocol Detail Record Organization (IPDR.org), an open consortium for interoperable service measurement and exchange, announced the public release of specifications for Public WLAN roaming and settlement. The documents, IPDR Supplier/Partner (S/PS) Settlement and IPDR Public WLAN Access Service specifications, enable inter-operator settlement for universal single-bill access to public WLAN (PWLAN) hotspots.



The IPDR S/PS Settlement specification resolves key technical limitations of cross-industry settlement interoperability. It provides an open, flexible and responsive technology enabling Supplier/Partner relationships to be practical and profitable. Its Wi-Fi use case standardizes settlement among hotspot operators and a variety of home service providers, and also supports native environments for every type of provider in the Wi-Fi value chain including GSM-, CDMA/TDMA-, WISP-, ISP- and wireline-operators.



The IPDR PWLAN Access Service Specification is a component of the set of IPDR specifications that describe business requirements and protocols for usage measurement and usage reporting for IP-based services. While the focus of this specification is exclusively on PWLAN usage accounting, the specified record format may also be used to facilitate retail billing. This document defines the business requirements, information models, and the XML schema for accounting for basic Public Wireless LAN (PWLAN) access and IP-based services delivered over the PWLAN radio interface, possibly involving service delivery platforms for complex services. http://www.ipdr.org
