VideoTele.com Adds Windows Media 9 to IPTV

VideoTele.com, a division of Tut Systems, will incorporate Microsoft Windows Media 9 Series compression technology for delivering digital broadcast TV over broadband networks. Windows Media 9 Series compression will be supported in Tut's Astria content processor (CP), which serves as the core of Tut's digital headend solution. The Astria CP provides real-time processing and conditioning of all the audio and video content for distribution via IP, ATM and/or DVB protocols. Windows Media 9 Series encoding will be supported in software re-programmable DSP chips, enabling service providers to upgrade existing MPEG-2 digital headends. With the new capability, the Astria CP will offer simultaneous support of MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and Windows Media 9 Series, as well as multiple processing algorithms, including transrating, transcoding, demultiplexing, remultiplexing, and protocol conversion.

Tut Systems has supplied video headend solutions to more than 60 telcos for delivering digital TV over xDSL, FTTH and HFC networks.

At this week's TelcoTV 2003 conference and exhibition in Las Vegas, VideoTele.com will be showing the Astria content processor performing real-time video encoding with output of IP and IP/ATM video to three network interfaces, including: IP video via Gigabit Ethernet; IP/ATM video via single-mode OC-3; and IP/ATM video via multi-mode OC-3.
