Lucent Enhances Navis Provisioning Manager for VPNs

Lucent Technologies released a new version of its Navis Provisioning Manager that is designed to significantly reduce the time and costs to carriers of setting up, delivering and managing IP VPNs. The software supports ATM, Frame Relay and DSL services, as well as the latest MPLS VPN and IP QoS technologies. Lucent said the new software can dramatically reduce the time it takes for the service activation process -- with carrier installations able to activate service in minutes rather than hours, with over 600,000 orders daily.

Navis Provisioning Manager 4.0 features automated flow-through provisioning for streamlined, "zero-touch" activation. It also features auto-discovery of a network's topology, including configurations and available ports and paths, which minimize the need for error-prone manual data entry. The software's point and click design allows service orders to be translated into virtual network connections and other types of network paths for provisioning services, while maintaining QoS. Navis PM release 4.0 features Label Switch Path (LSP) optimization, which automatically reroutes MPLS tunnels making use of Bell Labs MPLS Traffic Engineering technologies to avoid congestion and meet service quality expectations.

Navis PM supports network equipment from a variety of vendors, including Lucent Technologies, Juniper Networks and Cisco Systems.
