PCTEL announced a software package that permits a Wi-Fi enabled notebook or desktop PC to function as a Wi-Fi access point and router using a wired Ethernet connection to the Internet. PCTEL will offer is software as a bundled solution from manufacturers of retail 802.11 client adapters. It also hopes to license the technology to 802.11 chipset suppliers and motherboard manufacturers as a value added option, or to license the software to wire line broadband service providers as part of their home networking solution.
