Deutsche Telekom to Offer Ethernet-over-optical Service with Lucent

Deutsche Telekom will launch a new Ethernet-over-optical service for enterprise customers using equipment from Lucent Technologies. The 'Leased Link DDV-M Ethernet100' service will connect the LANs of various locations through Deutsche Telekom's optical backbone to form a logical network - with a scalable transmission rate of up to 100 Mbps Ethernet. Lucent will also be supporting Deutsche Telekom in developing and launching the service and running joint marketing initiatives. The service, which uses Lucent's Metropolis AM optical multiplexer with TransLAN technology, is expected to be commercially available this summer. Lucent is also the main supplier for the core optical transport network of Deutsche Telekom.
